Re: What have you done to your Bronco today? (v.2)
Technically, Not today,, but today she fired for the first time in over a month! Went from this due to my own lack of knowledge Through vacation and recovering from a severely strained back to this Finished buttoning it up Sunday night and wentt out today to recheck everything and fire it up, Ran it at 2k for 30 mins. Still some things to look at, I have a vac leak at the base of the carb which is messing with getting the timing just right. I'll replace that tomorrow after things cool down and set the final adjustments. First time ever doing anything like this and thanks for all the discussions to get me to this point. Dan, you were a huge resource for me and helped me from making some other mistakes. Need to get the fenders and grill back on it and take it for a spin later this week as time permits. Brett

Re: What have you done to your Bronco today? (v.2)
Doing the mad scramble to make it to Ouray. Over the last few days I've done a DIY gear banger, painted the new shifter & twin stick. I should have all that buttoned up tonight. I also have to finish installing the Lock Rite locker, suspension limit straps & new treads.
Also cleaning up my house so my house/dog sitters have a decent place to stay. Since last Saturday, I've (with the help of lots of friends) ripped down several 1882 walls & and a ceiling amounting to 4 pick up trucks full of plaster, lath, & lumber. We've also framed up a few new walls, installed a 15' reclaimed beam, and sheet rocked the ceiling. My place is dirty!

Got it ready for trip to Ouray
checked and topped off all fluid levels
replaced stale air in the tires (just checking if your actually reading this)
checked to make sure I have tools, spare parts, and fluids
packed that sucker to the gills with camping gear
might just sleep in it tonight

Tomorrow, I'm repacking my muffler bearings for good measure. Might change the blinker fluid if I have time.

Re: What have you done to your Bronco today? (v.2)
Went to Advance to pickup some vacuum line. I blocked off the manifold vac lines and connected the carb directly to the vac advance on the dizzy. Seems to be running fine. Also picked up oil filter and a Restore so did an oil change this evening. Amazing how black that stuff gets after only a 1000 miles or so.

Took my nephews on a couple of rides in the Bronco - had such a great time with the sun shining, top down, and music up. Thanks Viper for the quick turn-around on the transmission to make it possible - priceless to spend some quality time with them.

Re: What have you done to your Bronco today? (v.2)
Ok -- No second job tonight so I am FINALLY going to have at least a couple three hours to tear into the old 302 that Frank and I pulled out of my 75 DBE. Wife is wanting an engine -- any engine -- back in the vehicle now, so I better get moving!

Ok, 4BT? You have to translate as I am new to Fords in general and Bronco's specifically. HAH!

Re: What have you done to your Bronco today? (v.2)
Quick question -- what is the best way to remove the old gasket materials from where the intake manifold used to sit? And can I use something like brake cleaner to do a finish cleaning?

Ditto on the razor blade, finish it up by wiping it down with acetone.

Re: What have you done to your Bronco today? (v.2)
Acetone -- I've got some of that. Perfect. The original engine has an Edeldbrock Torker 289 -- does that sound right? Ok to use on my "donor" engine or worth finding something else cheap to throw on the top of it? Thoughts?

Use it and see how you like it. Carbs are easy to swap out.

Re: What have you done to your Bronco today? (v.2)
I pillaged a Mercury Mestique that was donated to one of our local volunteer fire departments. It will be used as practice for extrication, jaws of life, etc. It had a surprisingly nice interior, blue to boot, so it matches my truck. I grabbed the front seats, visors (w/lighted mirrors- its a Merc you know), a cigarette lighter, a nice overhead light, and an inertia switch. I really hope the seats can be used, they are sweet, but it won't be easy. The driver seat is electric, and may be difficult to make sit low enough to fit my legs under the steering wheel. The passenger seat does not have a quick release folding back, because it was from a 4 door car. I think I read somewhere that a Bronco II seat base can be used to flip the seat up and out of the way, for entering the back. Any suggestions? I told a friend that I may swap him the electric driver's seat for his manual seat, and just exchange seat covers, if I can't make it work.
