I'm getting close to paint, but have never painted before. I completed all the prep work and thought about taking it to Macco in the springs.

But, if I use a HVLP sprayer, can I do a good job in my garage? Or is it worth the risk to take to Macco?

I've heard both positive and negative about Macco, but mostly negative.

Like most of us on the site, I have to trim costs, spending way too much money on this one. Thanks for any advice. John

Shoot it yourself. Just make sure all the prep is done right and you can get good results.

anyone ever tried TCP global restoration paint? I know it's cheap, but wondering if anyone had good results.

Also with HVLP can I expect a big mess?

I agree with Zoso - you can do a great job. I have Finish Line dual spray guns that you are welcome to borrow. I used a lot of Eastwood.com stuff and thought it was great stuff. I never used their paint but I think it was good stuff but just a few colors. You a can shoot it as a single stage or bc/cc.

Yeah! shoot it yourself, and the HVLP far less waste = less mess.

The Bronco Hut is going to have a paint booth we may have access too very soon! If you can wait a little longer I would do so. One of the most important parts of painting a vehicle is the cleanliness along with correct application. I took auto paint and body repair over 25 years ago and it has evolved so much since then I have to start all over with learning how to use these new products but the application process has not changed.

I have access to a paint booth on Ft Carson, but was hoping to clean my garage and give it a go.

When I do the sealer, how long do I wait before painting on top?

Yes, you can shoot it yourself in your garage, hang clear plastic to keep over spray from contaminating everything, wet down the floor and go to town.

We recently painted my son's mustang, it was the first time for both of us. Not hard to do at all. I do have a couple of recommendations: Get written directions especially mixing ratio's. Most likely you will be spraying on the weekend when your paint rep is closed and will not be able to call for advice. Write on the cans the ratio's so you do not forget, and finally get a piece of scrap metal to make a few practice spray strokes on. You can adjust your gun and figure out the spray pattern easily that way and not mess up your finished product.

These 3 tips, if we had them before we painted, and if we had followed them... would have saved us a lot of work later on down the road when we get to do it all over again...

But that said, we will do it again ourselves, honestly, there is no reason not to.
