opinions??
I have a 5.0 efi, C4 marlin crawler-d 20 combo w/ 4.56 gears in back and 4.11 up front. Haven't wheeled yet.
My question is would you keep the 4.56's and mate the 44 or drop the rear to 4.11's. I am looking at moderate wheeling, more pavement. I am thinking the rear, as to lower some rpm's on the highway, and w/ the crawler I should still be able to get a lower ratio when off road. What do you guys think??

Re: opinions??
What size tires are you planning to run and what kind of fuel economy (oxymoron in this case, I know) are you hoping to achieve?
Initial instinct on my part is to drop the rear to 4.11s. Much more highway/street friendly than the 4.56. I'm not familiar with the Marlin set up, but if it is designed as a low range upgrade/psuedo doubler then I would say you should survive quite well in your limited wheeling.

Re: opinions??
I would go with the 4.10's. Thats whats in mine with 33's and it turns right around 2800-3000 at 60-65. I dont like spinning it that high for very long on the highway so I usually dont go much faster than 55.

Definitely 4.11 with the 33's. You have all the low gears you'll ever need already.

Re: opinions??
Plumbdoctor, if you end up going w/4.11's I'd be interested in your 9 in 4.56's if they are in good condition. I run 4.11's w/33's and in 4 low I've never had a problem off road, on road in 4 hi i don't mind running it at 3k plus for 1-2 hrs to get somewhere, around town driving it is a great gear setup.
