 Axle Seals My rear axle seal blew out this morning...I called NAPA to get a new seal and they asked if I had a 2,780lb, or a 3,300 lb axle...I have no  . I assume those need to be pressed in...anyone know of a press available on Sundays, near denver? Its a 1970 Sport, 302, Dana 20 T Case and Dana 30 front diff.... any s?

Re: Axle Seals The axle rating info is on the door post (unless it has been painted over)
Or, just buy both sets of seals and return the unused incorrect ones when you are finished.

1972 Sport, 302, 3 speed with old school Duff floor shifter, T shift Dana 20 with JB Fab twin stick, 4.11 gears with Trac-loc, Lincoln hydroboost, Chevy disc conversion, WH gas lift gate shock kit, 33" Duratrac tires on slots and about 2.5" of lift, Stroppe installed: bumper braces, dual shocks on all four corners, GM power steering, trans cooler mount, auto shift column, rollbar.

Re: Axle Seals Got the seals and the bearings, looking at them I think I have the 2,780lb axle...the 3,300lb just looks too big from what I remember when I had them out last. They need to be pressed in which blows considering the shop by my house wants 55.00 each to press them in!

Re: Axle Seals Thanks guys I went and got a cheap press from Harbor Freight, I figure its good to have around but I dont need one too often sooooo made in China junk works, THIS time  I am headed over to Kinders pab early Sunday to do some welding on my bumper...we'll knock out the axle seal and bearing then. Breakfast is on me Kinder...and then some

Re: Axle Seals Deja vu. No press needed.
Remove wheel, brake drum and 4 nuts holding backing plate on. Pull axle/bearing assembly out and use the end of the axle to pop the seal from the axle tube. Tap in new seal with a big socket or something similar. Take your time and get it in straight or it will leak.
The big bearing axles have the big seals. Here is a diagram.

Re: Axle Seals Seals are the easy part, it has been a while but I think I remember them from my 66 F100, the bearing on the other hand will likely need a little work to get off and on, I think the shop up the street here in Parker will take care of it if Billie's press isn't able to.

Re: Axle Seals yep seals are easy, bearings are press fit. There's a big NAPA on Chambers and ?? Colfax in Aurora and they'll press them on for cheap...I think it was $20 for mine - and I bought the kid a burger to get it done quicker while I waited.
