Fuel line question
Total noob question: My truck has rubber fuel line of unknown age running from the tanks to the selector switch and then up to the carb. It's time to swap it out for something with a known history. I'm planning at this point on using a length of steel to run down the frame with rubber hose at each end. Make sense, or am I missing something?

Stock line was plastic. You could run rubber but it does breakdown over time and cut be cut/melted easily. I think steel is the way to go.

OK. I'm thinking a 6' or so section of 3/8ths brake line with a bit of a flare on each end bolted up to the frame. Fuel filter at the tank and then also just before the carb. This will deliver enough fuel, even after I switch over to an electric pump, right?

3/8 will be more than adequate for any future upgrades. even a big block.

I did 3/8 steel a long time ago, for Holley Projection that was quickly junked. Now I'm going to Ford EFI & having to adapt, because the factory stuff only used 5/16" input & pump. So 3/8 should be more than enough.

Hmmm, maybe I'll go 5/16ths then. The long term goal is to go with an Explorer EFI 5.0.

BC broncos has a fuel line kit.. not sure if the others do but was just looking at this myself as iam going to replace the original plastic and rubber setup... I just bought the kit from BC and they are custom bending / making them for me to go on top of the frame.

I thought pretty seriously about the BC kit, but I think I'll likely bend up my own. I like doing stuff myself, and I don't really have the money to spend since I flattened the Bronco fund buying my welder. We've just absorbed a huge jump in our daycare costs, so DIY is the order of the day.

Yes, I junked the Projection & kept the 3/8" feed & 5/16" return. The Explorer fuel rail & the truck/van E2000 high pressure pump I chose, use 5/16" feed. It isn't hard to adapt, just a conversion barb after the pump, and before the fuel rail. I don't know what other set ups use (BCB fuel tank, 351W, etc). You can always adapt to the 3/8" line, but if you use 5/16" and choose a pump or motor that needs 3/8" you would have to rerun new line, so I'd probably go 3/8" and live with the adapters.
