Gears? 33's, C4 and 3.50's currently
Looking into gears for the Bronco...302 EFI motor, 33x12.50's and C4...Currently running stock Dana 44 and Ford 9" with stock open 3.50's. It seems fine currently, the new motor added the power loss from the larger tires. Both the front and rear have 215k miles on them and I know nothing about working on them.
Should I look into 4.11's or just rebuild the current setup? What will the cost look like? Who should do them? Am I missing anything?
Thanks!

Is that a thick front ring gear? If not he's gonna need a new front carrier too.

Just a rule of thumb, be honest with yourself as what tire size you plan to stick with for a long time. There are many gear calculators out there, and you want to target the same drive ratio as you had with stock gearing and tires, maybe even a little lower numerically, to compensate for the heavier tires. You can look at www.completeoffroad.com and many others to see what gear ratio's are readily available.

Anybody have a used D44 open carrier for the 4.10 gears they want to sell? If not, Tom's has new ones.

Re: Gears? 33's, C4 and 3.50's currently
Great thread. I will be moving to 33's in the next few months. I imagine I have the stock 3.50s (I"ll check before I do anything) but is it necessary to go to 4:10s.
most of my driving is around town with occasional short drives to a trail (60 miles).
No plans to go any bigger than 33's
Thanks.

Re: Gears? 33's, C4 and 3.50's currently
You can always upgrade your tires and see what you think, but with the extra load from larger tires, you work your tranny harder, and your engine, which could overheat both. Plus when adding 33's (and likely a lift) you increase wind drag and yet another factor to making your rig work harder.
However, Shawn, with those ghost flames, you get an extra 25 ponies at least. :)
