Swapped the single v-belt pulley off my alternator for a double v-belt pulley, & measured for new belts.

I'll get 2 new belts tomorrow & see how she runs/charges.

I'm also going to get new ring terminals and make a new starter solenoid to starter wire from some left over 2ga winch wire. I'll see if it will stop my EFI error codes. I noticed the volts dropping close to 10v under cranking. Can't hurt, anyways.

The battery is only a couple years old, and a AGM dual purpose. New grounds from the alt to frame, frame to battery, and body to frame, with the EFI swap this winter. I ohmed my old, but good frame to block strap @ 0.00, everything should be good. The starter is way older than the battery, so I'll blame it next. The battery checked out fine this winter on our charging system diagnostic machine.

What have you done to your Bronco today? (v.2)

Postby landshark » Mon Apr 02, 2012 9:47 pm

Got the underside of the tub painted, steering box back on and started plumbing the rear brake line and fuel lines.

Decided to run 3/8 and 5/16 line for fuel in case I want to go Efi or someone else does. Bought two 25 foot rolls so should be fun plumbing the lines. I'm going to cap the 5/16 for now and I'm keeping the aux tank so a little extra plumbing.

Also color matched the current blue and think I will get the truck rolling and get the engine bay blasted then paint it unless I can figure out a way to strip all that paint myself.

Rerouted fuel line and fuel filter. Had a major vapor lock issue. Ran the piss out of it and so fa so good. Had to readjust the carb after because. Of a difference in fuel line size after the filter. A few more things to do on Lila and she could be my daily driver.

Installed my CB Antenna and fastened my rear seat. Then took the family for a ride doing errands. So crazy how errands can be fun in a Bronco. My youngest punk even fell asleep . . .

He's cute! Today, I discovered that, as usual, most problems can be solved with a suitable application of force. Manged to get just enough re-alignment out of the tweaked upper half of my driver's door pillar using a BFH and a piece of 2x4. Good stuff. I'm amazed at how much more convenient it is to align the doors when you've got quick remove door hinges. Now to pull it back apart and weld it up (was checking to make sure the door fit OK before I finalized too much) so that I can be done with the body project.

I picked up a used set of 35" Goodyear MT/R's (with rims) from one of our club members and swapped them out with the 33"s we had on there. It sits pretty nice, I'm not sure if I will have to lift it much higher or not. Gonna have to make a short "day trip" run and flex her out a bit to see where they rub. I don't like the rims so I'll have to get my old rims pulled off of the old tires and put them on the new - used tires slap

Finished the trail initiated tuneup; plugs, wires, rotor/cap and points (yes I still run points- only time I gets to use my 40 year old dwell meter and ignition wrenches). Next up is the oil change, and various fluid top off.

Dropped and cleaned the Sherman tank since it was never cleaned, replaced the used fuel filter with a new one (dang lazy people) and hoping my fuel issues are solved, so I can finally drive it and have it reliable since the swap started last June. New motto; if you want it done right, do it yourself!

I finished up my rear drum brake refresh (see brake parts in 4x4 tech). Looks good with ALL the parts present. Too bad it wont stay that purdy with all that dirty brake dust.

I've also been cleaning up some hubcaps and went with a slightly different look (inspired by a 76fordbronco idear). I have all 5 just about done. The before pic isn't actual but it was close to where I got started.

Took a break from my Bronco to work on my uncle's Bronco yesterday. We mostly completed the entire front solid axle swap into it! Just some shocks, brake lines and bolts and it will be ready to go. It came out pretty much exactly as we were going for. A big thanks to Landshark for coming by to show us his bronco and keep us motivated to get it done! We started the morning off with a bare frame and no front axle at all and ended the day with it sitting on its wheels. Image

Nicely done! Today, Kinder and I swapped out my uber-stiff 5.5" lift Rancho front springs for a set of 3.5" progressive Duffs that Dan hooked me up with a billion years ago. Thanks to both Kinder and Zilla, I now have a Bronco that sits level.

Crawler - keep us updated on the progress as this truck evolves. Looks great. Love the front pre-runner too. It is nice to have Landshark's full-size as a template to how dang cool FSBs can look and perform.

Thanks! I will keep it updated. The front prerunner is going asap....neither my uncle or myself like it at all! His bronco now has electric lockers front and rear and it will be getting rock sliders, new front bumper and a roll cage after the we tie up all the little loose ends with the sas. Going to be quite the capable machine!

Finally got the rear locker installed in the Bronco, still need to sort out the axle seals, the new 31 spline axles are custom Moser's and are killing me because they have a different OD from stock. But it's cool to have both wheels spin in the same direction, a quick function check and it locks and unlocks like a champ and seems a bit smoother then my Aussie locker up front.

I put in a PowerTrax No Slip locker, similar to their older locker but it's suppose to be smoother when it disengages, less noise. I'll try to get the seals sorted in time for the breakfast, I'm dying to drive it. Big thanks to Dan and the setup hassle, and thanks to Bill (Molley) for the new to me gears.

Picked up some "not quite right" seals last night, heavily modded them and they are in and not leaking. Took it to our local out of the way gravel area and had a great time with the skinny pedal, it's going to be a handful in slick conditions! Confirms my decision to put a limited slip in the boys Bronco.

I drove my bronco today for the first time in about 6 months! It is still not completely done but I just had to drive it! Grabbed the wife and took off for a quick spin around the block. Got out on the main road around my neighborhood and just shifted into 4th when it died on us. Walked back to my house and grabbed some gas as I remembered that I neglected to add gas when I re-installed my tank. Added gas and still no start! Went home again and grabbed my truck and a tow rope. Towed it back and found I blew a fuse. Replaced the fuse and it is good to go again!! I have my tachometer wire hanging in anticipation of the tach install I still have to complete so I am thinking it shorted and blew the fuse. Tied it up and had no problems on the second and third outing!! Getting close!
