Re: What have you done to your Bronco today? (v.2)
Bought all the tools to install new gears in my 60's. Took the rear apart, got seriously confused and pissed off. WHY ME! I give up.

Drove it a mile. It's registered and insured just not finished yet. Really gave me the bug to get her done! Can't wait for some warmer days!

Re: What have you done to your Bronco today? (v.2)
Hit Bill Moore Trail with a co-worker and his full size Bronco. We got fairly close to the lake, but the snow finally turned us back. We decided to go down Red Elephant Hill. I wasn't quite ready for one pucker obstacle, but able to do it with a little scraping underneath. All in all a great run that showed me how capable my current setup is.

Re: What have you done to your Bronco today? (v.2)
Ordered the twin stick kit for Drew's J-shift. We may be hosting a tech day for installation when it arrives.
That and it looks like a rear axle seal is leaking.... sheesh.... like I have time for that this weekend.

What have you done to your Bronco today? (v.2)
Completely disconnected the engine, tranny, transfer case, and driveshafts. Socofn is picking up engine and tranny next weekend.
Its amazing how many points the drivetrain connects to other parts of the Bronco.

Re: What have you done to your Bronco today? (v.2)
Picked up a '77 J shift D20 today. Bought it off a girl in Littleton who been building an awesome Bronco in her garage for the last 5 years. Very impressive will 5.0 EFI and serpentine. I mentioned the club to her and she joined up.

Re: What have you done to your Bronco today? (v.2)
Started disasembly for my swap with the engine from airbur. I decided to pull the front fenders to take care of a couple of rotten areas, what a PIA that turned out to be, I had to get the sawzall and cut two of the bolts and I had to use the big impact gun to remove 5 of the 6 big screws that hold it in the aft position. I had to drill one of them out . I hope to have the engine out by tomorrow night and then get new metal in both holes. Nothing has turned out to be easy!!! JP

I'm looking for a cheap cherry picker on Craigslist now to pull it.....I'll need it to put my 427W in when it comes time as well.[/quote]
You can borrow my cherry picker as I won't be using it for a while (I hope)

Re: What have you done to your Bronco today? (v.2)
I managed to get both fenders off and then I coated them with some leftover herculiner I had. Still do not have the engine out as my help did not show up and it was 120deg in my garage today so I quit work a before noon. JP

Re: What have you done to your Bronco today? (v.2)
Replaced both rear axle seals - everyone is right, so easy a child could do it... Special helper - Tanner, my 4 yr old Nephew. Tanner scrubbing the mud and grease off the skit plate, brake drum and wheel spacers Passenger side axle - is this normal? Why do I feel that this Axle is in need of some "special" attention or replacement.... Also - what is with this? It looks like someone welded the ring on - 2 spots, 180* opposite each other. The drivers side is smooth and clean... Drew adjusting the brakes before installing the drum - nearly done with the passenger side (for now - until we have to replace the axle....

Re: What have you done to your Bronco today? (v.2)
Looks like you've got the same sealed bearings I do. The tack welds appear to be holding the sleeve and bearing on. Shouldn't be necessary if it was the right stuff as that is a press fit. Oil those seals up before you slide the shafts back in.

Re: What have you done to your Bronco today? (v.2)
Pulled front axle apart, carrier out, ring gear off, old locker out, new locker in, ring gear on, carrier in. Awaiting Chromoly's from Trei! I had to drill the heads off 4 of the 6 bolts holding my locking hubs in on the passenger side. They stripped out! Not to find a new set... BTW - pretty confident this was my problem and I am glad I didn't try to get to Moab on this: 2 broken pins and one hole busted out, another almost cracked out.

U Pull and Pay. Take yourself a ziplock bag and an Allen head with you. Grab as many as you want. They're free. Might as well grab a spare set of hubs while you are there too. I got my Warn premiums there for 30 bucks.

I'd love to Zack, but it's hard to find the time to get there. I never did give much though to buying locking hubs there tho...

Hooked up the hoist after removing the carb to get the leveler as low as possible. Kinder came over to pick up some parts and ended up schooling me on xfer case innards:)

Those levelers look pretty handy. Do they really make pulling and install that much easier?
