Factory carb wiring questions
Yesterday afternoon/evening we decided it was high time to replace the aluminum intake and Holley 4 barrel carb with one that is actually recommended for a ford 302 running at fewer than 3500 RPMs. We went back to stock.
Just a couple of questions if you all wouldn't mind searching the memory banks for the answers we would be very grateful.
#1. On the passenger side, both carbs have an electric choke. The Holley used 2 wires, a hot and a ground. The factory carb uses just one. Which is it? (I think I know but just to make sure).
#2. On the drivers side, there is what I can only assume is the cold / fast idle dohickey. It has a wire coming off it. What does this connect to? The harness on the engine does not have any unused wires in the area. This can be seen (barely) in the picture. The carb/manifold at the bottom is the one we are installing and said wire is at the very bottom near the throttle linkage.
Tonight we will be pulling the factory set up and doing it all again - when we fired her up - she seems to run fine but we have a leak at the front top corner (near the valve cover). So tonight - pull the whole thing again - clean everything again... new gaskets again.... new coolant again.....
Like Drew said last night: Just goes to show - if you don't do it right the first time - you get to do it all again..... Lesson learned.....
