Pan fill C4s (C5?) Anyone running one?

 Pan fill C4s (C5?) Anyone running one? Been doing a bit of reading lately. Looking past the controversy surrounding the naming convention for the C4 case fill versus the C4 pan fill, I'm wondering:
1) Anyone running a pan fill C4?
2) Previous experience with a case fill C4?
3) Notice any particular differences with the two units, aside from the outward appearance?
The '72 is going back to a C4 eventually so I can utilize the transmission cooler mount AND so I might be able to tempt the wife in to driving it. (I'm really not that crazy that I'd convert it over to auto just to utilize a Stroppe installed part.)

1972 Sport, 302, 3 speed with old school Duff floor shifter, T shift Dana 20 with JB Fab twin stick, 4.11 gears with Trac-loc, Lincoln hydroboost, Chevy disc conversion, WH gas lift gate shock kit, 33" Duratrac tires on slots and about 2.5" of lift, Stroppe installed: bumper braces, dual shocks on all four corners, GM power steering, trans cooler mount, auto shift column, rollbar.

1972 Sport uncut, 302, C4 with 1974 column , T shift Dana 20, 3.50 gears w/ limited slip, 1966 U13 Roadster kick panel, and factory power steering.

Re: Pan fill C4s (C5?) Anyone running one? All factory auto EB's had pan-filled C4s.
Case-fill C4s are internally identical except for variations in clutch numbers, servos and governor/valve body calibrations due to vehicle weight, gearing, motor, etc. Externally a case-fill C4 may have a smaller bellhousing. Some had big bells and a 164 tooth flexplate. Pan-fill cases are stronger but required more trans tunnel space.
A C5 had some internal differences. Improved cooling and oil flow circuits and a crappy lockup converter and special valvebody to go with it. A C5 core is good to build from if you have a C4 valve body and converter to use in it. A C4 can also be modified to include the C5 improvements. Mine is as well as some others I've built.

Pretty obvious I've never owned an automatic transmission Bronco huh?
The big bell 164 tooth units were made for the 351M, correct?
So you've basically combined the positives of both the C4 and C5 into a dream transmission that contains the best of both worlds?

Re: Pan fill C4s (C5?) Anyone running one? Yes, pan-fill uses 5 huge bolts to hold the bell on and 7 smaller to hold the pump on. There are many types of bells for the case-fill C4. I think pan-fill were all 164 tooth small block pattern. There are aftermarket bells for the bigger motors.
FYI: If you want to put a C4 behind a 170 or 200 you need to use a case-fill C4 because there are no 170/200 bells for the pan-fill.

You'll have to educate us as to the perfect recipe for a C4 one of these days. Preferably before I swap the '72 back over from 3 speed.
