Floor pan replacement

Postby Justin » Mon Nov 12, 2012 4:19 pm

Eck and I are going to be replacing the passenger side floor pan in his rig this Saturday (11/17/12) at his house in the I-70 and Colorado area. He gave me the OK to invite club members if anyone is interested in checking out the process. Not sure of time yet, but figure mid morning till some time in the afternoon. Please RSVP so we know how many people we'll have wandering around his landshark sized garage.

The Kinder Klan may be able to make it, need any tools, say air hammer or angle grinder, or possibly an experienced 15 yo floor pan replacer?

Cool! I think we're set. Eck doesn't have a compressor, so it'll be hammer and chisel to provide the motivating force. I think he's got everything else that's needed.

Sweet- this may even make it easier. If someone has gas, I do not! Insert fart joke here. Other than that, I think I'll have just about everything. Also, have we figured out a time yet?

My wife says I've got plenty of gas. I can bring my welding bottle, too. I should have plenty left, will check it. I'm averse to early mornings, how about 10?

10 works for me. Also, I've got the primer. Can we just brush that on or do I need a paint gun?

So I went to Painter's Supply and explained what I was doing and I bought some CIC weld through product to lay down for the weld -- that came in an aerosol can. The Primer is a JP Series epoxy two-part primer. My plan is to just lay down primer where the welds are to make sure it doesn't start to rust while I am prepping other stuff over the next couple of months. So my thought was just to mix-up a small amount and brush it over the welded areas and then when I do the entire tub, I can sand it down.

KINDER -- how many are in your clan coming over? Also, you able to make it over at 10am? I will PM you my address.

I think I used that same CIC weld-through. I'll bring my paint guns over with me and we can make a decision re: spray vs. brush on the spot since we'll have Kinder's compressor.

Sounds good-- see you in the morning. I have not yet heard back from Kinder but sent him a PM with my address. So if he doesn't come, we will be sans compressor.

Actually, I need it too. It appears to have dropped out of my nav's history.
