Good non smoking 302 wanted
Looking for a good solid non-smoking 302 to replace my current engine in my 68.
Thanks Bill

Re: Good non smoking 302 wanted
Already tried the "Bon Ami" in the carb trick and no luck, but was worth a shot....

Re: Good non smoking 302 wanted
An excellent (probably one of the best racing engine builders in the front range) told me to try it. I guess that is how the dealers use to seat the rings on mid 1950s chevys before selling the cars. They were coming out of the assembly lines so fast and shipped straight to the dealers that the dealers were responsible for the engine break'ins. Anyway, he said that as long as I didn't stall the engine while pouring in the Bon Ami, it wouldn't hurt. He was hoping for "varnished" piston walls and said there was a good chance that this would help clean them out. Fun to see the white Bon Ami come out of the other end but only a small change in the amount of smoke. So, probably leaky valve guides but thought if I re-did the heads w/o doing the lower engine, would probably blow out the bottom since it is an original engine...... oh well....

Re: Good non smoking 302 wanted
Probably would not recommend doing it in a newer engine or one that you don't mind blowing up.... just in case...... but in my case I had nothing to lose, and the guy said in my motor, it wouldn't hurt anything....... now I wish he would offer to rebuild mine for cheap.. :')
