Post My 73 Ranger Project
Picked this up a month ago out of Wy and can't tell you how long I have wanted one. It has rust through spots but I have already started getting new panels. Here is what it came with. Rebuilt 351W, transfer case, 3 speed trans, and a 9 inch, big bearing rear end. Also has a new aluminum rad, both fuel tanks were replaced with the extra capacity tanks, and new Beard Racing seats. Also came with the trailer..
Now comes the time of restroring all the bad panels so I may need a little info on that process from you guys. I have the floor pans to due first and the parts so here we go.

That looks like a great score for sure! Where are you located? I'm guessing someone close to you can help get you started. Also, what winch is that?

Thanks for stopping by! I look forward to your progress. Nice to have a trailer thrown in on the deal!

Winch looks like the factory PTO. Koenig?

Thanks and I am located in Windsor. The winch is a PTO driven Ramsey and don't know if I am going to keep it on there or not.

I wondered if that was a ramsey. I've got the electric version sitting on my garage floor, need to fab a bumper for it. I'd keep it, you'd be the only guy in the club with a PTO winch.

Nice find with good upgrades, floor pans aren't too bad, we could host a event up north and help out.

I have a lot of rust through spots to take care of first, then run it. As far as the rest I am still looking into seats, disk brakes, gauge repair or update, roll bar set up, paint color and so on. Just can't wait for the day I can drive it. The tires and rims are going to go very soon then move it into the garage.

What rust areas need repairing? Post up a day, feed us and you'll get some help. You'll be amazed how much work can get done for the price of pizza, especially if you can give folks some lead time.

Boy were do I begin. Floor pans, inner/outer rocker panels, kick panels, aprons, rear corners, tailgate, door posts, and right side cowl. I am sure there is others but that it a enough for now. For the mean time I have been getting the garage ready for it a little at a time as well as the welder.

As far as the help, I welcome any of it and I will set up a day for pizza and beer soon.

From what I was told is to do the pans first but then what is next?

How about the door posts? Look up into the front fenders and then the back and see what they look like. If they are good then I'd recommend a triple play; floor pans, kick panels and rockers in one shot. If they are bad then we'll need to schedule a serious surgery.

What kinder said. The other thing to consider is replacing the rockers with sliders. Tougher and cheaper as long as you've got at least a little metal to weld to.

Yes, I would say both door post need to be replaced. Like I said before I have a lot of metal work to do. I have thought about sliders but still go back to the original look.

That is VERY minor, and I wouldn't replace them as they are tricky to get right, instead I'd just patch them.

I will try to get some of the other pictures of areas that I would think need to be replaced and post them for review. Thanks for all the help..

Post Re: My 73 Ranger Project
Welcome aboard-- I just went through all of this on mine. I bought it last July and spent all winter doing many of the same things. I did power/disc brake conversion, power steering conversion, and a lot of body work (learning to do it all myself-- I had to acqure tools like a welder, air compressor with air tools.) I replaced both front floor pans, driver kick panel, almost the entire driver's door post, and patched numerous spots on the inner fenders, passenger door post, etc. It seems pretty overwhelming but I was able to get mine done out of a tight one car garage throughout the winter. I also put new seats and completely Raptor Lined the interior as well as prepped the whole thing for paint and had a fellow club member do paint. I replaced the rocker panels with rock skis.

SOOO... it is doable and very satisfying to do all of the work yourself. I knew nothing about any of it and a lot of the guys that have already chimed in above were big reasons why. Just post up when you you are looking to get started and you'll have some guys helping out. The best thing is to have some guys get you going in the right direction and put a list of project priorities together. The one thing I will say is take measurements of everything before you start to rip sheet metal out (especially if you end up pulling kick panels and door posts out.) Also, if possible, leave the hard top on to keep everything in line so nothing sags-- I am speaking from experience!

Post Re: My 73 Ranger Project
Thanks and I will take all the help I can get. Right now I am getting a few other replacement pieces together like the tunnel since the PO hacked it up pretty good and I decided to change the 3 speed to a C4 which I just picked up. (Thanks Keith) I also am waiting for another week before I move into the 1 car garage so I can have the electrician install a dedicated 30 am circuit and maybe a 220V circuit. I have all the equipment minus a few jack stands. I like how Landshark was able to lift the body off just enough to clean up and paint.

It already has the disk brakes so I need to get a tilt steering wheel column, High back seats but I don't know which brand. Of course all the little things but I think I have time with that do to my current work schedule. Not complaining about that since it is helping me get those nice to have things faster. Again thanks for the advice and I will make sure the pictures get out.
