Post wtf...why buy a kit
So as my time vs money ratio has become inversely proportional I have tried buying kits to just bolt that shtuff in. Recently I have been let down by the kits not being bolt in or simply getting the wrong parts. The latest awesomeness was buying a local shops adjustable steering linkage kit. I go to put it on and the damn center rod is 1inch too long even with the center rod butted up against the tie rods. I call the place to let them know and after 40mins of them saying now way then grabbing parts off the shelf it turns out I was right :fish: and the latest batch was cut several inches too long. So they say to just cut it...which I can do...and did....but dammit I dont spend 320+ to have to mod crap.... Is this typical and I should just deal with it or am I right to expect crap to be right the first time? When I was SASiing explorers, 4runners and rangers I would just measure my stuff and take it to rockstomper or another fab guy to get built. It was a pia but at least it was right

Have to say I would be pissed. If I bought a kit that is intended to be bolt on and then had to turn around and modify it to get it to worK, I would expect the company to reimburse me somehow. Store credit, t-shirt, something that says, " Hey valuable customer, I am sorry that this happened, please except this as an apology."

If they told me to fix it instead, like they did to you, I'd say I be as ticked off as you are, or worse. banghead

Personally, I think it is ok to name that shop just so the rest of us have a heads up. The very idea that they had you modify it your self is total BS

Mistakes happen. But they do need own'ed up to. I agree with Geo - some sort of reciprocation is in order. "Thanks for bringing this to our attention..."
They are likely in the same boat tho. They paid someone to make these for them and that guy screwed up, and if that guy is worth his salt, will also do some reciprocating.

That shop doesn't have the best of reputations in my conversations with many folks, and from my personal experience seeing a shop rig on a trail not "staying the trail".

I like supporting local brick and mortar stores as long as they are close to the price of the internet shops. Things happen and I have had similar issues with bc broncos and toms bronco parts...but they sent out the right part post haste. I will buy from broncohut again but I did make my next purchase from a competitor

Here is another example of my frustration with vendors. This time tomsbroncoparts.com.

"This Roll Bar Top Kit for fits 66-77 Classic Ford Broncos with Family-Style Interior Bars. Kit comes complete with riser bracket and channel, wiper motor lowering bracket and mounting hardware. The Roll Bar Top is currently available in black or white"

What it doesnt say is that it only really fits the toms bronco parts family cage which has a center hoop that it canted to the rear..if you have a cage with a straight up and down center hoop it will pit the center bar cinch straps behind the rollbar by 4 inches so when you tighten them down it will loosen the portion between the center bar and the windshield. If they had just put the cinch straps 4 inches forward it would have worked for both straight and canted to the rear bars because as long as it is in above or in front when when you tighten the straps it will tighten the portion between the center hoop and windshield.

Those adjustable, replacement steering links have been made long for decades for a good reason. That way they don't need to make different lengths if you have '66-'75 or '76-'77 knuckles. If you need the short setup you need to cut it. The threads are more than long enough.

Understandable except in this case they had a specific kit for 66-74 and one for 75-76. If it says it is a complete bolt on then it should be. I am fine modding stuff to make it fit if I know that I will have to mod it before I buy it.
