Post Floor heat protection
What are you all using for floor heat protection? My new to me Bronco has a 351W with headers and I'm getting a lot of heat through the floors. I just pulled out the old rubber stuff that was glued in and holding water and really need to replace it, what are the options from cheap to expensive?

or I could just drive during the winter.....

I mixed this ceramic microspheres product - http://www.hytechsales.com/insulating_p ... tives.html

With Raptor Liner and sprayed my tub. I'd bet if you also used thick rubber floor mats, you wouldn't get too much heat.

I wore thicker shoes. May need to try Eck's method, though. Seems like the best for price/performance.

Guys have used two types of building insulation a foil bubble wrap style

http://www.lowes.com/pd_409818-56291-ST ... facetInfo=

Or a foam duct insulation
http://www.homedepot.com/p/Frost-King-E ... /100028603

I just picked up a couple rolls of the stuff from Home Depot, but haven't installed it. I'm going to put 1 or 2 layers on the firewall when I pull the dash & rewire.

I'm hesitant to put it on the floor, worried about what water & ice will do to it.

You can mix the ceramic beads into exterior latex house paint for a cheap version of Lizard Skin, another source for the beads:
http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/c ... ubbles.php

I haven't done any of these things. I've got 15 year old peeling Herculiner. I've got to do something about the heat. The last trip at Moab convinced me I've got to do something. It'll start when I rewire.

Exhaust heat shield. google it. Tons of ideas and products. A decent shield will help keep the heat away.

When I pull the carpet to do the floors Im gonna run the lizard skin. Im gonna run a layer of their thermal than a layer of their sound. Gonna coat the entire interior and insides of the doors.

Well, some pretty good ideas (except for the wing window open..duh..)

If I was in Gunnison I would leave it and consider it as additional in-floor heat, but it got very uncomfortable while 4x4 in the desert here on the CO/UT line.

Post Re: Floor heat protection
Ok, we went out 4x4ing today in the Bookcliff's. Did a little shooting and continued on what I call the "Sea Trials" of my Bronco.

The Bronco got really heat soaked. When we got home I measured the heat temps that I'm dealing with on the floor and shifter area.

Around the drivers floor pedals I'm getting 110-123f.

The shifter area is about 123F.

The heater is bypassed, but around the passenger floor area it was 123-143f, one area just below the heater was 161f.

The headers were 376f.

This is way too hot, even with the roof off.

Since I need to fix the flooring sheet metal from the previous owner generous use of bondo, I'm going to build some heat shield baffles also underneath.

Then use some of the ceramic micro-bubbles in the floor paint.

Then I will see how far done the temps have dropped before continuing.

J.E.

Also you might wrap the exhaust in those areas. If you plan on redoing the exhaust at some point have it built to hang lower.
