Welding onto a shift fork

 Welding onto a shift fork So my throwout bearing is riding the pressure plate, however just a bit of back pressure (about 1/8") is pulling the throwout bearing off so its free
because of the external slave there isn't any room to put a spring on the end of the fork, I am thinking of welding a small extension onto the end in order to have a clear line to the frame. Is there any issues with me welding to the end of the fork? I know its hardened steel but it should weld just fine I would assume? Not much pressure is needed to move the fork/throwout bearing away and with the added leverage of the extension it should work fine.
Thoughts?

Re: Welding onto a shift fork Several on CB and pirate have welded to it for a hydraulic setup, so I'm thinking it's OK. I hope so as I'll be welding tabs to mine for connecting a slave to soon.

Re: Welding onto a shift fork I assume this is a stamped steel piece. If so, you will have an area around the weld that will loose its heat treat, but that area you're describing is not critical. I would be more concerned if it were near the areas of greater stress.
