Hey guys, we are going to use the Bronco for a parade in February and want to fold the windshield down for the event. Top will stay off all winter now as I was about to put it back on this weekend.


My question is: are the knob/screws that hold the windshield normal threads? I would guess they are, but with my luck I would be cranking on reverse threads.


I will start shooting some PB blaster on them now, I just don't want to wreck them.


Any advice on getting them free?

Regular thread. PB Blaster will help. Not sure if you can get heat on it without burning the glass, paint or any rubber gaskets. Do you have an impact wrench? If not, maybe put a socket on it and hit the socket a few times with a hammer to break some of the rust free.

Yea- I have many impact wrenches, but I'll soak it for a month or so before I use that.

That'd be my first step. Mine popped right out, no problem.

I'd also use a socket that matches the bolt head, 6 point socket for a 6 point bolt. If you use a impact driver hit it in both directions, it'll help breakup what ever funk is holding it.

Used carefully, you may also be able to hit it with a propane, butane or MAPP torch without messing up the surrounding paint. If it's really stubborn, the other thing you can do is mask off the surrounding area with a few layers of tinfoil and weld a big nut to the bolt head. The combination of heat and increased leverage can get stubborn bolts out.
