Power Steering Question
I am running the Explorer serpentine system with the explorer pump, and stock power steering box. I have been using power steering fluid and will occasionally get air and noise from the pump when turning. Should I be using a ATF fluid with that box? I am also running 33" tires, and the steering seems to struggle.

Re: Power Steering Question
I have heard the Explorer pumps are hit or miss for guys. Some people don't have any problems with running them on their Broncos and some have issues probably very similar to yours. I just recently swapped in the Explorer serpentine set-up on mine but decided to go with the Saginaw pump. I am running a 351W so had to do some other mods to that Wild Horses bracket set that ZOSO mentioned.
Prior to changing to the serpentine and Saginaw, I had a stock Bronco pump and it worked about 60% as good as my new set-up. I have 34" SuperSwamper tires and can turn the wheels with one finger with no squeel or dead spots.
You can probably buy just the bracket set from WH for $70, buy the saginaw pump and pulley for less than $100 from NAPA and make your own PS hose for $20-30. Save yourself $50 or so plus I am sure shipping would be cheaper...

Re: Power Steering Question
Thanks guys, do you think that the fluid could make a difference. Maybe I just got a bad used pump from b.c. Broncos. I thought that the pump was new but i figured out that it was used and just painted.

Re: Power Steering Question
Shouldn't make any difference as they are the same fluid. You could always drain and flush it with regular powersteering fluid but I just always use atf. One less fluid to carry.

Re: Power Steering Question
Well maybe after the holiday I will buy the wild horses kit, or make one. Thanks again.

Re: Power Steering Question
Unlikely that fluid would make much of a difference for power.
