Post Stereo Install Shop
Anyone have a recommendation for a good car stereo install place?

The factory radio in our 2500 is on the blink.

Thanks,
Jeff

Not exactly a specialty shop, but I took my 93 Bronco to Bestbuy for my last paid for install. They knocked it out pretty quick, and as a big box store have a pretty good customer service policy. Go with empty pockets though so you don't wind up shopping while you wait.

I've used Car Toys for modern vehicles, they did nice work on my wife's car.

I see some pretty hacked up jobs coming from all the big name stores. We're currently involved in a lawsuit with a place that shall go un-named for frying a vehicle harness and few pricey modules in a Porsche 996.

Personally, I'd go online and just buy an install kit for your vehicle and do it yourself. If you need help on the wiring end swing by here with both connectors and a 12 pack and I'll solder it for you.

A lot of installers do side jobs through craigslist

I'd probably get a factory radio from a junkyard and install it myself, unless you're looking for added features.

Stereos are easy so I've just done them at home. Find what you want and then pick up a stereo adapter for your vehicle and a trim kit if necessary. EFI Guy said he would solder it for you or if you're in the Pueblo area I can give you a hand too.

Unless someplace was doing a free install and I was feeling really lazy or you are looking for something special, there is no reason to pay some one for that job.

I am pretty sure that Quality Auto Sound does free installs if you buy the stereo from them.

PDA in Littleton near broadway and county line. Smaller, independent shop, does great work at really great prices.

Thanks for the advice and offers. I'll look into the details a bit more about doing it myself--it's an odd radio they installed in that year. There really isn't a direct replacement that I can find. It is a large size but I don't think quite double din. It's also got a rounded border that the trim piece fits making it tough to put a rectangular faced radio in.

Good thought on finding one in a scrap yard--I'll save that as plan z as the radio was never really that user friendly.

I had a 2004 Dodge 2500. They do make aftermarket bezels to fit a double-DIN stereo. Any good place should be able to get you one. If you look to do it yourself, look at Crutchfield. They usually sell you everything you need to put the new stereo in and give you directions on how to do it. Replacing the stereo on a Dodge 2500 isn't hard at all. I added an iPod adapter to mine super easy via the CD Changer controls.

X2 on crutchfield. I am a novice when it comes to installing this sort of stuff and when I got my kit for my super duty I had the new stereo and 4 door speakers installed in an hour with the supplied instructions. I did pre solder the adapter harness because I needed my friends non- colorblind eyes.

Pick a nice warm day for the install tho. Plastic is much more forgiving when it's warm. Youtube stereo replacement for your truck too and you might find some good tips.
