Got this, fairly cheap.

P1020435.JPG

Its a slightly bent D60 from a 95ish (bolt on calipers) F350. It was back yard straightened & gusseted. But its not really straight. The last guy had it under a 78 Bronco (hence the lower coil buckets)

P1020436.JPG
P1020437.JPG
P1020438.JPG

When I agreed to buy it, I expected to cut it up & use it for a D60/D44/D50 hybrid axle. It was, by far, cheaper to buy this axle, than buy inner C's, knuckles, brakes, hubs, etc.

Since it took the guy a couple weeks to get it to me, I've been thinking. I'm seriously considering bringing it to Denver to Crawler Tech, and having them straighten or retube it. I think I'd be money, and time, ahead. Hopefully, there isn't anything fatally wrong with it. If its FUBAR, I'll build the hybrid axle.

With the D60, I'd end up with a stronger (but heavier) axle than the hybrid, without the extra kit/$/grinding to put a D50 gear into a D44 housing. Not to mention the complicated process (that I don't have the skills or tools to do) of fitting D60 knuckles to a D44 housing. Also, since D60 axles & D44 housings aren't matched, the axle housing or axle shafts would have to be lengthened/shortened to match. I think I just gave up trying to reinvent the wheel. I'll just get this one fixed.

So hopefully I'll be rolling on a D60 up front and a D70 in back, on 37's in the next year or two.

Got nearly everything in the engine compartment buttoned up yesterday...just need to finish wiring, fuel lines, and figure out the fan/shroud interference thingy.

Been getting things ready for Moab. Yesterday and today I have:

- taken the hardtop off
- hooked up the temp control cable finally
- installed new stabilizer brackets and stabilizer
- fixed the cigar lighter (this actually prevented me from having a good time in Moab last year when I couldn't spark the stogie)
- installed re-covered dash pad
- got the bikini top on

-Installed a new transmission, clutch and pilot bearing
-Rebuilt carburetor
-New starter
-New battery
-New plugs, points, condenser and voltage regulator
-Greased and/or oiled all moving parts.

I am happy to say my Bronco is up and running and road worthy for the first time in a decade. I only got a few pics because it was a busy few days but I'll try and get a few more as we get some road time.

This one turned out not so great. Sorry :( I promise I'll snag more when it's light out tomorrow.

Thanks guys! It still needs some work but I am also really happy to see it running and driving after all this time. I had a blast working on it. Can't wait to do more. Now if I could just convince my girlfriend that date night could include getting parts or working ont the Bronco, I'd be in serious business icon biggin

Replaced the knuckles in the 76' and reinstalled the original steering linkage then rotated the tires. I just need to pack it and I'm ready for Moab.

Finished the old/new bumper double swing out build. Double sheer tire swing out with high lift mount. (Yay more room inside). Cut down the left side basket and added a double jerry can holder for my trip. Also installed justin hoops (trademarked) to add 2.5 inches of uptravel and found my shocks had no nitrogen in them. Will have more pics soon

Looks great! Please post more pics when you get the jerry cans in, as I'd like to see how you engineered the hold down.

Post What have you done to your Bronco today? (v.2)
The hold down is going to be a piece of round stock pinned into place that goes through the handles. Not sure it will work but we will see. My backup is a strap around them to the uprights :).

I can't see my self using this very often and I will remove it after my trip.

It's not pretty but wanted to use what the PO had done and not re-engineer stuff.

I guess I will need to find a place for the license plate for the trip. Maybe center of the tire.

The center of the spare is where I moved my plate to, I used some left over square tubing and a hitch pin so it is removable, works well.

Post Re: What have you done to your Bronco today? (v.2)
I replaced the rear bearings and seals this morning. I also tore into my drivers side door as there has been something loose and rattling around in there since the a$$clown that towed me a few weeks back probably screwed something up when unlocking my door. Was able to get everything fixed but had to completely remove the door latch mechanism. the piece that spring loads the latch had broken off. I will say that little things like that need a quick tack weld sure make it nice to have a welder handy! I was also able to fix my window track. There were at least 3 issues with that, and also required a tack weld.

The one thing that I probably need to replace at some point is the handle spring. It doesn't really stay tightly wound and when I drive it, hit bumps, it likes to just start rolling itself back up. Is there a way to tighten it so it doesn't do that? If not, does someone have a good one laying around they aren't using?

Post Re: What have you done to your Bronco today? (v.2)
Heater core blew a qt onto the floor. Normally a quick job to replace unless you've added a few miles of wires and a computer under there. At least I finally got to a place where I could reconnect the drivers defrost hose to the upper duct. I gave up on that years ago.

While not all entirely done today, over the last 2 weekends I have:

Searched the pull and pays for a new radiator.
Found and installed said new radiator and fans too
Built better radiator mounts in hopes that the grill does not find its way into contacting radiator thus creating the need to call AAA for a tow home again
Built a new splash shield/inner fender for the drivers side (still need to build one for the passenger side)
Fabricated and installed a bracket for the air cleaner...

All this for Drews Little Pony

I need to get back on Wilma. She is feeling neglected

Got back from vacation and finally finished up the EFI conversion. Thanks to Garry for taking time on his holiday to help me with a little tuning.

Ordered yet another set of "sure to solve the issue" spark plug wires.

This is the 4th set of plug wires I have burned up because of the tight fit between BC Broncos headers and GT40P heads. #7 plug is the tightest one.

Every time I burn the plug boot, it accelerates the corrosion on the connectors in the distributor cap.

Fingers crossed, should know in a couple days.
