Post Caribou Trail this weeekend?
I'd like to scout this area out for some future camping spots. I figure the fishing up by rainbow lakes should be good and Caribou Trail says its has around 11 designated camping spots. I've read a few reports that the meadow in Caribou trail can get rutted and so muddy that you shouldn't go alone. Anybody want to explore this with me and do some fishing? I'm thinking Friday, Sat, or Sun.

A few of my buddies and I were planning to go up to Loch Lomond on Sunday to fish but I would love to explore something new (been to Loch Lomond a dozen times). If you want to go on Sunday, we would be all for it!

Cool. I'm game for Sunday. We could start at Eldora, head north up the easy wheeling trail up to Rainbow Lakes campground and try the lakes out. If that sticks we can hit the stream in Rollinsville.

Perfect. We will be there at 8. I've never been to Eldora but assume it's got one parking lot and will be easy to find each other?

Rob, you coming?

Its not at the base of Eldora Ski area but Im sure we can find a meeting place. I'll look into it and post up a meeting spot. Worst case--we meet in Nederland and go from there.

No trip is good without a good moose or Sasquatch sighting. Speaking of which, Jeff are you coming?

We are going to meet in Eldora at Washinton and 5th and start the trail on 505. It is Eldorado Mountain trail and connects to Caribou Creek Trail. Combined its about 8 miles. It ends at a road that takes you to Rainbow Lakes or back to Hwy 72. We are meeting at 8 at the trailhead.

Post Re: Caribou Trail this weeekend?
It was a good trip. Not technical or challenging for our Broncos. There was a truck that joined in that had some challenges and got some branch scratches and running board scrapes. However, the trail was mostly bumpy with some pretty cool views of the trees turning colors. We also found a couple cool camping spots for some future camping.

We started in Eldora on a trail that looked like a driveway. It was pretty narrow (very limited passing spots) with a steep drop off. We continued up to the top of Eldorado Mountain and then back over the other side to Caribou Creek. We passed a couple spurs that went to some designated camping areas. At the end of Eldorado Mtn Trail there was a junction of Caribou Rd and Caribou Creek Trail. In the future we would take Caribou Rd to get to this junction. It would take 2 1/2 hours off the trail time (but you would miss some of the views of Eldora). We continued on Caribou Creek Trail through some very rutted areas that would pose quite a challenge if it were in the spring. This portion was only a couple miles and we ended at a road that went to Rainbow Lakes campground. It was pretty busy when got there (2 pm). After a mile or so we got to the lakes and fished a couple of them. We pulled out a few brookies and brews and chilled. On our way back we found the lake we will fish--next time. We got back to the trucks around 4 with enough time to get home for the Bronco game.

Big thanks to Toolman and Eck for joining in on the exploration. I can check this off my list and feel good about taking the kids up for some camping.

That was a long day! What great weather, views, company, and to top it off- a Broncos victory (dual translation).

Some pics I got. Shawn- did you get a water crossing pic of me?

Nice work, you even photoshopped all the body damage out and put a passenger in.

Shawn,

Why are you wearing a life jacket when you're sitting next to 6" of water?

So where's your fly rod? You didn't channel your Bear Grylls?

Thanks for the pics! Looks like a good relaxing trip!
