Postby Gunnibronco » Mon Feb 29, 2016 10:24 pm

To help with quell my worsening case of 66 OCD, I'm going to try to post/maintain a list of differences between 66 model year and others. There are a lot of "66 only" threads on CB.com, but they all seem incomplete, and repetitive.

I'd like to document the differences with pictures, and if possible the production dates of each oddity. I have accumulated many of these "facts" from threads here, on CB.com, discussions with some enthusiasts, and other web sites. I'll do as best as I can to note where I got the info.

This is just a bullet pointed list I've worked on for the last few hours. I'll be fleshing this out with pics & links if possible. Please feel free to post up additions & adjustments to my info. I'll adjust my list or add pictures or links to try to keep it current.

Warn locking hubs was an option in '66. Mine has them and I know via family history they came with the Bronco. I'll grab pictures when I can.

This is a great idea for a wiki! I'll definitely contribute whatever I can in terms of photos or info. I unfortunately don't live where my Bronco is stored, but I'll take as many photos as I can to document the '66 idiosyncrasies I have run across.

Thanks, pics would be awesome. I think the Warn hubs came with a sticker on the dash describing the operation.

ANY pics of details of your truck would be great.

I don't recall seeing a sticker for hub use instructions, but it could be there. I've heard dealers often left it up the the buyer to put it on if they wanted. I'll be working on the Bronco tomorrow so I have a list of pictures to take icon biggin

Awesome, thanks! My truck is not super photogenic right now, that helps a lot.

Beautiful visors!

Yours is a U14, right? What were the snaps for?

No problem. Anything I can do to help.

Mine is a little rough around the edges too, but the core is there so I'm hoping to remedy that over the next few years.

It is a U14. The snaps were for a cloth bed cover in the back. Not sure where or when those and the light on top were added.

Budd tub oddities:

RT9 has a September 66 built 67 with a gutter or drip rail behind the pedals, no indention for the "Ford" emblem under driver seat.

30cf495938a6c283df269ca8175c44d2.jpg

He's going to look his tub over and see if there is any other Budd stuff.

And this October 66 built 67 U13 has Budd looking a-pillars & later? kick panels.

12440543_10205301678012383_5895958295212015559_o.jpg

Doesn't look like it has a drip rail, but hard to tell.

12419203_10205301675372317_1736060991727594508_o.jpg

This truck was originally exported to Columbia. The owner did not answer when I asked if it has any other Budd features.

This thread is great!! I'm working on the tear down of my 66 now and was curious about interior colors for when I send it out to paint.

Thanks for the invite Chad!

From what I've read, PPG code 32549 should be the correct color for the dash & door panels.

Saw a line of '66s recently and checked out the mirrors. There were 4 different types.

That is exactly what I thought, they were using whatever they had around.

I got pics today of a confirmed August 65 U13 mirror that is different than any I've seen.

Thanks!

This evening I rediscovered another 66 ( and I'm guessing 67,68 ) difference. I was replacing my worn out window tracks this evening and noted that the original rear window track has a flat fork shaped upper attachment point while the later doors without removable window frames have a threaded attachment point. The difference is so that the upper attachment point can be sandwiched in-between the door and the window frame. I forgot to take a photo but I'll try to get one tomorrow. I should have remembered this because I had replaced the track on the other door several years ago and ran into the same issue. I did a little searching and I was unable to find anyone selling the early style rear window track. Looks as though a little welding may be the way to sort this out.

Thanks,

Also, the inside door panels are held on with 7 screws, apparently 67's added 2 screws along the top edge. No surprising, as my 66 panel seems to bow away from the door shell, along the top edge, just a little.

I've also heard some talk that the original 66 fuel pump has 10 bolts around the top. Mine has only 8, but I have no clue if its original, or not.

I have the vacuum fuel pump that was on mine when I got it in a box and I am currently consolidating my hoard so I will get you a photo of mine for reference when it comes up ( In the next few days I hope ).

If your doors are apart, shoot me a photo of where the door panels are screwed into the doors. Mine have screws that are not original and are screwed directly into the doors with no clips or anything. adding to the issue most of the holes are too big so the screws don't bite into anything and constantly fall out or need tightening.

I haven't taken my doors apart, but here is a pic where the 7 screws are visible. I'll take more pics when the doors come apart.

That door handle is not like mine. I thought that was the 67 style.

I have a 66 handle to replace it. The driver's door is correct, just harder to take pics of right now.

Looks like they added the 2 extra screws to the door panel sometime during the 66 model year. All the 66 restos (with doors) on Big Sky Bronco's site have the extra screws. Maybe a Budd thing.
