Just discovered my fridge isn't cooling. Anyone know of a good appliance repair outfit or have a stainless fronted one they want to unload? I'd put this in the sux thread, but no one impounded it.

Check the defroster bulb in the freezer side.Might have to take everything out of the freezer to get to it.If it goes bad it won't cool.About a $20 dollar part.

What brand is it? My dual cool Samsung stops cooling the fridge side about every 6 months. I remove the back inside panel and the fan is iced up. Thaw out all the ice and reinstall. Good to go for another 6 months. Absolutely ridiculous for a $2200 fridge but if you have a Samsung it may be your issue too.

Whirlpool. Fan is running but the coil is badly iced up.

Same thing happened on my GE. There is a heating element that keeps the coils from freezing up. Thaw out the ice and replace that heating element and you should be good. Appliance factory outlet usually has the parts.

Broke out the ohm meter. Looks like the heating element is good but the thermostat might be bad. Will swap that out and see what happens.

We had the same problem with our Kitchenaid side-by-side about 8 years ago. Freezer was working but the refrigerator stopped cooling. After some head scratching, going over the schematics, troubleshooting, thinking about buying a new one, and a bit of ing about stuff not lasting, I diagnosed it as being the actuator that opens the blend door between the freezer and refrig compartments. The actuator opens the door to let cold air from the freezer cool the refrig compartment. I ordered the parts from Whirlpool (makes Kitchenaid) I installed the parts and it's been working well ever since. I had to defrost the freezer then take the inner liner of the freezer out to get to the actuator/wiring but, it wasn't to bad of a job. I opened the blend door a little and jammed a screw driver in to keep the thing working while I waited for the parts to arrive. (We're used to doing this kind of stuff on our old iron, right?) This gives you something else to check to make sure this is/isn't the problem.

I bought a replacement one off craigslist. $200 for a $2000 fridge. Someone was replacing all their appliances with stainless steel The one we bought was less than 2 years old.

Excel picked up our old dead side by side (never again) and gave us a check for $50 to boot!

The heating element thermostat tested out bad. I put a new one in and so far seemed to have solved the problem. Well see if it stays fixed. Definitely will go the used route if we replace the fridge. They're stupid expensive new.
