Re: Birthday present needs a ride back to Colorado
SMS is where I bought the fabric. Bronco hut actually sells a bench seat upholstery kit but its just south of $600. The fabric cost me about $320 and having my guy make the covers and install is another 120-150 plus the foam which they will provide. When its all done, I'll be in this seat close to a grand. because of the powder coating on the seat frame. It sounds like a lot but I just don't care. How often do you see a 66 Bronco with an original bench seat in it? I can't wait to roll down the road on that damn seat. It also allows me to transfer my current seats which I reformed and covered a few years ago into the 68 Project for the boy. That will save us some time and $$ on that project. I'll keep the progress photos posted

Re: Birthday present needs a ride back to Colorado
I talked to the powder Coater this morning and it's going to be under $100 for that plus the cost to blast the old paint and surface rust off. I'll finish getting it torn down tomorrow and repair any broken springs etc prior to taking it in

So the seat frame is stripped down. Now I have to repair a few of these broken springs before it goes off to blasting and powder coat Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Re: Birthday present needs a ride back to Colorado
I used some steel tubing that I had to make a sleeve for the broken spring. I welded the ends in place turned up the heat and welded right through the tube from the back side. It's not pretty but it's got to be stronger than tack weld it back together. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

So, the outside spring was broken in two places. Once again, it's not very pretty but it should support my narrow ass. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Re: Birthday present needs a ride back to Colorado
Luckily the guy that rode shotgun on the seat regularly was a little bit less taxing on the springs. Only one repair required on that side Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Re: Birthday present needs a ride back to Colorado
The back of the seat had only one spring to repair. Unfortunately the spring wire was way too thin for me to consider welding it. So I took another piece of the steel tubing I had and crimped it onto the wire. And I use a pair of vise grips to crush the tubing down tighter. I don't think it's going anywhere. Seat frame is back from blasting and powder coat. They look like new. I'll just wet paint the sliders, We were going to coat them but the plastic knob would have melted in the oven. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Re: Birthday present needs a ride back to Colorado
Jeremy, you should add a couple seat heaters to make the winter morning drives a little nicer.

Re: Birthday present needs a ride back to Colorado
I was in a rush to get this thing done but I just found out my seat material will not be shipping for another week. Perhaps I will have some time to shop for seat heaters. I had not thought about that before. Maybe from Amazon?

Re: Birthday present needs a ride back to Colorado
5 minutes on Amazon and I see that seat heaters can be had for $50-60 for a pair. That is much less than I expected, is that the going rate or is it because I'm looking at a crappy product? If thats the price I'm in. I could roll with no top deep into October with heated seats!

Re: Birthday present needs a ride back to Colorado
That's actually cheaper than some of the ones I've looked at. If they've got good reviews I'd pull the trigger.

Re: Birthday present needs a ride back to Colorado
The Dorman kits are more expensive, but well rated. https://www.amazon.com/Dorman-628-040-U ... B002U6IL9OIn my opinion I'd rather spend a little more not to need to tear it apart and replace them.

Very nice. So cool you could end up with it. Thanks to Zac for making it happen!
