Postby mickphatmac » Fri Aug 10, 2018 12:24 pm

Looking to buy the closest High Pressure hose that will attach from my Explorer power steering pump ('01) down to my 4x4x2 box.
Any specific part numbers and pieces appreciated!

I'm not looking to make my own if I can help it.
....also not looking to buy a $75 dollar hose + shipping from Bronco Vendor! sorry

I don't know anyone that makes the specific hose. When I originally set up my hydroboost I had hoses made at the Parker Store. I know they have the fitting for the 4x4x2 box and should have the fitting for the Explorer pump. If there is one near you maybe check them out.

I always make my hoses from stainless covered teflon and AN fittings. You will need an adapter for the pump from Wild Horses.

And with using anfittingsdirect.com it can be fairly cheap. Thats how I plumbed all my fuel and power steering.

Soooo... I wonder what a screenshot of the exact hose I need to order would look like???

(or how to word the order?)

You’ll need length, hose diameter (likely 3/8), end angles like straight, 45 or 90, and then fitting size, most of us use AN-6 sometimes called JIC-6. The end angles will need to be lined up as most high pressure hose will not allow a twist in the line over a short distance.

This is the fitting for the pump.

https://www.wildhorses4x4.com/product/F ... wer_O-Ring

Fittings sizes for the 4x4x2 box are on this diagram. You'll need to figure what angle fittings & hose length will work between the pump & box, this one shows saginaw pump, Superduty h-boost, and cooler in the mix.

anfittingsdirect.com is good stuff & quick to ship.

I appreciate everybody’s help and as you can see, I obviously have zero knowledge about fittings!!!!!!!!!

OK, let’s pretend I’m ordering...

I need a (-6 X 16MM X 1.5 LOWER O-RING adapter from Wild Horses) and for my hose I need a Female -6AN with a 90° bend from the power steering pump with 27” of 3/8” HP hose into a 45° angle into the PS gear with a Fenale -6AN and a 1/2-20” to -6AN adapter?

Am I close?

That make sense to me. From what I've read, source your hose & hose fittings from the same manufacturer. There is some variance of hoses/fittings between brands. So if you use the fittings below from andirect, use their hose, not aeroquip hose. The WH fitting at the pump, and aeroquip fitting at the box are fine.

Also, I read DO NOT use aluminum fittings on high pressure PS lines, they will crack under the pressure. Stick with steel.

BC Broncos will make you a line with the correct fittings. Just call them and tell them what you have. They made mine and they are nice.

I don't think you can buy one for less then $70 dollars anywhere. Stock lines can be that much.
