Re: winch info
The price of the new Smittybilt XRC Comp 8K and Rugged Ridge 8.5K models with Syntheitc Ropes and Hawse Fairleads are very attractively priced at around $450.00.

Re: winch info
8k should be fine, more won't hurt anything. I'm really hoping to find a rebuildable Warn 8274 just because they're cool. Frankly, nearly any winch will be good enough if you're not using it often. If you wheel alot, I'd shoot for a Warn or Ramsey.

Re: winch info
any opinions on the multi mount winch attachment? suppose it could be handy to have a front and rear capability to winch. last winch i handled (years ago) was really freakin heavy though if i remember correctly. been watching CL lately and there have been a few good ones that came up cheap...we'll see

Re: winch info
For sure heavy even with rope. Just go with another rig to pull you out backwards.

Re: winch info
Here's the winch I am going after when I get my suspension done (and I have leftover money). Two people have had one for a little over a year and collectively used them three or four times and really liked them. http://www.truckandwinch.com/recon-10-5 ... h-kit.htmlI don't think you can have too much winch really. I've seen 8k's stall before (snow wheeling) and sometimes you might not have enough rope to use a snatch block. J.D.

Re: winch info
I was gonna suggest looking into the Bulldog Winch, but looking at that Recon that JD posted up, I might have to reconsider my thoughts.

Re: winch info
I got my Superwinch EPi 9.0 from amazon around a month ago for $495 with free shipping. They still might be offering it for that price?
I went with superwinch because after doing hours of research on the specs of the different winchs I came across a table on some heep forum showing all the details for the different models. Superwinch was the same line speed, hp, 9000 lb pull, ect as warn, but less amps to run it. So I figured it was the way to go. I didn't want to get into a winch that was super slow, or not powerful, or hard to use, because the easier and better it works, the more likely you are to use it. And there may come a time when you are debating "should I use the winch, this looks tough?" If the winch is not a hassle to use; fast, powerful, and reliable, you are more likely to use it.
...better safe than sorry, my.02

Re: winch info
i have a 9k tabor on the front of my bronco {basically tabor is warns comercial line} it does the job i've pulled out my self a fair number of time as well as my buddies without a winch. i've always let it cool down after a long heavy pull. to help save the motor.when i got mine it was $375 but that was 3 years ago. give them a lookie threre not that bad price wise. They come with warns full warnty as well.

Re: winch info
good price for sure I think i may go that route when the time comes, but I am thinking I might lean more towards traction devices vs winch for the first round of money when that happens. If I can drive through it, that is much faster than winching through it, but then if I do get stuck i get stuck deeper. i may have to swindle some money though as that is a good price.

Re: winch info
Lockers make your stucks worse. But also less often. Catch 22. Carry a HD come-along until you can get a winch. That's what I have done for years.
