Re: Justin's retroactive build thread
Got a little time in the garage today. Based on Digger's CAD feedback I moved the upper shock mounting point down and in so that the force was more in line with the hoop. I'll brace things pretty aggressively, so I think it'll work OK. The geometry is set up so that it'll be perfect when I move the axle back another inch or two and works fine as it is now.

Re: Justin's retroactive build thread
Dropped the block and rotating stuff at MPG Heads today. Turns out it was a good move to buy that crank, as Scott suspects that mine would have needed to be turned .020 or .030 to fix it. Now to wait and see what the verdict is on the block....

Mid February for completion. Likely to get it hot tanked and looked over sooner.

Re: Justin's retroactive build thread
CC'ed my heads this evening. Looks like I've got the 64cc GT40's. Assuming a .047 head gasket, dished pistons and zero deck height, 4.030" bore x 3.5" stroke = 8.63:1 compression. 4.030" bore x 3.85" stroke = 9.40:1 compression and 4.030" bore x 4" stroke=9.72:1. Hmmmm, decisions.
Need to hear back on whether my block and crank are good so that I can quit researching engine configurations...

Re: Justin's retroactive build thread
you need to measure how many cc's the dish is. Most are not a true zero deck so you will need to measure that. Typical gasket that I have found is 4.100 bore and .040 crushed. Its easier and cheaper to get compression by changing pistons to one with less dish. I don't know how much meat is on the gt40's but you can shave them a little to bump compression.

Re: Justin's retroactive build thread
Look ma, no jack stands! First time the front end has had weight fully on a set of tires in at least 2 years. Spring rates are really close. If my measurements are accurate, I need about a 1/2" of preload on each side to level it. Also fired the engine yesterday for the first time in about as long. Turns out an un-muffled V8 is loud.

Re: Justin's retroactive build thread
Seems like this all started several years ago when Wild Horses had their war-flares on super black Friday sale. Talk about Bronco Creep I'm glad to see her back supporting her own weight again... Now - lets get those flares mounted up

Figured I should offset the weight of the welding wire I've been adding.

Lol. Nice try...I don't think that's going to cut it! Have you been tracking wire spools?

Re: Justin's retroactive build thread
More work done. Got the brake lines finished and the brakes bled. Also got the gas tank back in and the lengthened rear driveshaft installed with the pinion guard. Just waiting on more parts to finish rebuilding the shocks and it'll be driveable.

Re: Justin's retroactive build thread
Greg, here's your War Flare pic. Driver's rear corner is done. Exhaust is painted and in. I think it'll need to be extended a little since it dumps just inside the flare in front of the passenger's rear tire. I'm going to run it for a bit and see if there's a smell issue. It'll get rerouted to the rear corner once the 4 link goes in...someday. Fuel fill plumbing and shock reservoir will need to be relocated then too since I'm planning to move the axle back another 1-2 inches. Just need to finish the wheel well extension on the passenger's side and the rig will be back on the road for the summer.
