I had no idea that the 41 year old paint could be brought back to life. A little rubbing compound and some carnuba...amazing.....(still working on the bottom part of that door). |

Thanks! I really can't believe what it looks like under there. There are a few rust spots on the hood but other than that the paint is all still intact...should look great:) |

Good info....I did notice the rubbing compound did a little more than I wanted it to. |

Thanks Dan! I am definately trying to be thrifty here.....I need a polisher and am looking at a Porter-Cable model on Amazon now for $118. I'd appreciate a cut of your stock. Which products do you use? Is it the machine polish and rubbing compound by 3M? |

Have to say too, that looks amazing. Sticking with the original color from that era is a cool thing to do. Well done!! |

So you'd suggest: 1. 3M Machine Polish, then 2. NuFinish or Race Glaze, then 3. Crystal Shine or some type of top wax. Sound about right? Thanks. |

Post subject: | Re: Original paint revived..... |
Oh I gotcha.....so use the NuFinish or RaceGlaze a second time as the final coating. Thanks. |

Cool, thanks for the pointers. One other question I have....I noticed that whatever is on the paint is very, VERY dirty.....one swipe with compound puts a crap load of black on the towell. It's so bad that I have to contantly change the area of the towell I'm using. If I start using a polisher with pad, won't it gunk it up super quick also? I noticed these hook & loop pads aren't cheap. Thanks. |

I really enjoy washing, Armor-all, Tire Wet, etc. but removing oxidation and reviving the finish is a skill I would love to learn - sounds like an awesome tech class. |

Looks awesome airbur. I thought your rig was a more metalic gold......surprised to see the original color come through like that. Great job. |

It's getting there. After multiple trips to the store for more product and about 8 hours on the hood alone....it's looking pretty good. It's not perfect and there is some odd discoloration in areas....but I can't complain for 421 year old paint. Thanks to Zillacon (Dan) for his pointers. |

WOW that really polished out good! X3 on Armor All, I had a customer come in for a cracked A pillar molding, he had applied armor all on his new then 93 F150 and we warranty the A pillar molding, and it didn't match afterwords. Then a friend coated his boats interior with it because he thought it was a protect-ant and after sitting for one winter in Kansas the entire interior was dried out and cracked! the 4 years before the year he used armor all he had no issues. |

This is what I use on almost all interior surfaces in all our vehicles. It is the best product I have found and it smells just like leather:) http://www.zainostore.com/Merchant2/mer ... _Code=Z-10 |

Post subject: | Re: Original paint revived..... |
Well, if it were "fully polished".....I'd would post pics of it. But it aint done yet! It takes me about 2+ hours per panel just to remove all the oxidation and dirt. Then around 2 hours more of polishing and sealing:) |
