picked up a pair of the speaker pods from Jay today and they looked fantastic. Jay you do good work man. I thought I would require paint and clean up but they looked good enough in black gelcoat that is how they will stay for now. my new dash and 1/4 panels are a charcoalish gray and go good with my blue and figureed these would be the same, but it didn't work out that way. When I picked them up I originally had thought about buying the full size panel from him as well, beauty of a piece, but have been blowing money like I have it and opted for another route. Current was a black vinyl over a stockish styled masonite board, a little rough but still way usable. here is the old setup (driver side) and after pics are of passenger, I just got eager and started rippin stuff out without a before pic on the passenger side I purchased some material that I recently used to recover my motorcycle seat, black in color and has a texture that looks a little like carbon fiber in its pattern(my beard seats also use this on the backs and sides) removed the old and started to stretch and staple in place the new material I think they tured out nice with the new material Here it is mocked up with the pod resting in place. getting pretty excited for the end result at this point I used the pod to trace an outline on the back side to mark for holes. there are no holes in the pod, a good thing as I can then put them wherever I want in this case. Would have been complete probably if I just bought his main piece but am getting by cheaper this way (the EB way) and it shows that it can be done as an add on without buying the whole setup. traced for outline after marking, I held the pod in place tightly, flipped it over and carefully drilled 3 pilot holes through the masonite and through the pod mounting surface. then followed up with some #6, I think, wood screws. Here it is flipped to show what it looks like mounted to the existing panel Finished routing my wiring to door, grommets are your friends and the speaker and grill mounted with the door put back together. I think overall they turned out great. they seem to be mounted quite stoutly. I used some heavy 3m velcro on 3 spots on the bottom edge as the design with the hidden screws wouldnt allow me to put screws through the panel the way it was installed. I have no doubt this will be plenty strong, it doesnt move at all. Best part is they have a really nice spot to display all your cool stickers if you want, I just taped this one on for demo purposes. hopefully I can finish the other side soon and get the Bronco back out runnin around so folks can check them out if you are iterested in a set. |

Those are neat. Brianut what type of stapler is that? How does it fold the staples down on the opposing side of the material? I want one! LOL |
