Post Re: Bronco Apprasal
Classic Car insurance is a funny thing, not unlike our prized or passed down firearms, that are NOT replaceable. I am not sure who does classic car appraisals in the Metro Denver area and honestly I don't think it matters. If you do get appraisals both should be detailed to the point of ad nauseum. Insure both treasures not only for what you paid but the replaceable value, both monetarily and emotionally speaking. This may require additional insurance and rider on your current homeowners insurance (be careful, claims can be red flags when you go to sell your home) or additional insurance via your car policy...or a seperate policy all together. Keep in mind that insurance companies will fight you every step of the way if you need to file a claim after a "total loss" and appraisals may not be enough. Receipts and other documentation will be required to get what your firearms and your sweets a$$ EB are truly worth.

That's my take but I have been wrong before.

Billie

Might also be worthwhile to get input from Bronco builders, such as Nick's Trix and what not. Some appraisals from a builder who could realistically reproduce what you have now would likely lend some credit to your claims of appraised value.

I talked with my insurance agent about this a while ago (Allstate). She said for classic vehicles where the "book" value is completely unrealistic, they will do up a custom policy. You basically bring all your receipts in along with your personal idea of the vehicle's worth. They write the policy for the agreed-upon value. The rates are a bit more expensive but you'd get the full value back if anything ever happened.

Your best bet is to get a stated value policy. Add up your receipts, any labor costs you have into it, you can't add in things like oil, tires...consumables basically, but add it all together. Then you should get online and look at what a similar EB is going for on Craigslist & Ebay and make a stated value for yours. The other thing I would do is talk to a builder or a couple of them. Someone mentioned Nick's Trix. That is a really good reliable source, but I would also use Rocky Roads in California. Not that I would EVER use them to build something for me, but I would use them because they charge about 4x the amount of what they should for absolutely everything they do. I use mine for a really good starting point because of all the upgrades I have done. I have a stated value policy of $15k on mine, but body wise, I don't think I could get close to that. Mechanically, my EB is in very good shape, I wouldn't hesitate to drive it anywhere in the country, so like I said, mechanically it is great. My body is only about a 5 or a 6 on a 1-10 scale, so looking at mine, it is deceiving. It would cost me at least $2500 per axle to replace each of those, another $2500 minimum to replace an EFI engine....etc. and so forth. You get the idea.

This is kind of like shipping stuff. The shipper never asks you for an appraised value of the goods you are shipping. Only what your estimate of value is. They are banking on their ability to deliver that package unharmed to its destination.

With classic cars like this, it is also a gamble on the insurance company's part. When talking to your agent, make sure you don't pull any punches as far as your description of vehicle use. If they ask how many miles you plan to drive it a year, don't throw out some hokey number like "maybe 500, to car shows and back". That could come back to bite you in the ass if the vehicle is ever involved in an accident. A quick check of the odometer shows you've put nearly 8000 on in the last year and your collector car has just crossed over from limited use show piece to daily driver. That's just a bullet for the company to deny your claim.

Remember: insurance companies are in the business of gambling AGAINST the loss or destruction of your vehicle. They have plenty of lawyers and investigators on retainer who will do everything they can to ensure the company continues to maintain a profit margin.

Okay, now spill the beans on how much they valued the iron you use to protect that ride. LoL

I wonder if it's like insuring a private plane. When I owned a plane, I was advised to get a very realistic price. Over value the plane, and the insurance company would rebuild it no matter how bad it was wrecked and you wind up with a horrible wreck of a plane in the end. Under value it and they will "Total it" for the smallest scratch, giving you the insured value and selling it for a profit.

The value dies not surprise me at all - very clean Bronco in amazing condition. You own a true rare gem and should continue to increase in value as they become more and more rare.

I am happy you addressed this insurance issue. I would hate to have something happen to my Bronco and have them cut me a check for the current Book Value
