For 5w30, I've found Sam's Club to have the best prices......even if it's not the top of the line stuff... http://www.samsclub.com/sams/shop/produ ... tion=#spec $20 for 5qts of Penzoil isn't bad either though..... http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/webapp ... P2046_____ $12.53 for 5qts at WalMart.... http://www.walmart.com/ip/Pennzoil-Supe ... t/16474403 What do you guys use and where do you buy it? (this is for my current engine....I'll be running synthetic in the 427.) |

I agree with dan. I only run valvoline in my 79 and Mobil 1 in my car. For break in on a new motor you want to find and oil with a lot of zinc. Theres not a lot out there anymore. Brad penn oils are one. I stay away from pennzoil and quaker state. |

Also look into the Valvoline VR1 (non-syn) oils...the engine builder I used for my LS1 sold me on it and I now use it in the new EFI motor. Zinc levels are good and price is decent too. |

If you guys like this stuff, check out www.bobistheoilguy.com. There is some really interesting discussion there of lubricants (vehicular, not personal) along with extensive reporting of used oil analyses. Generally Mobil 1 doesn't fare very well. I won't use Pennzoil due to the paraffin issues mentioned by Dan, but did use the Platinum (synthetic, no paraffin) in my Mazda. It stood up to the fuel dilution issues created by the direct injection really well. Generally I'll use Valvoline in my daily drivers, but may try 5w40 Rotella in WRX as it is supposed to cope with the additional heat from the turbo well. |

Walmarts engine oil is supposed to have the highest zinc content, you will want this for ANY pushrod engine as the newer more "sophisticated" and expensive oils do not have the zinc (some dont have any) and it will wipe your lifters and brand new cam out. I wouldn't put penzoil anything in anything. I used to have a really informative link about modern oils and why they wipe new cams/engines freshly built packed away on my home PC to share, but that PC is packed away. Let me try to find it for you. Added: ok this is not the same link previously mentioned, but it is one I recently read from some of my racing buddies who only run Brad Penn oils. http://www.lnengineering.com/oil.html |

I use Mobil 1 and usually buy it at Costco whenever they have a coupon. Up to 3 cases of 6 qts for $10 off a case. |
