Post Body work sucks!
I've got to say, filling/sanding instantly puts me in a bad mood.

My father had me help with sanding in his shop when I was younger and I have grown to hate it. What makes it worse is I suck at it.

Does anyone know a good body guy that does a quality job for a decent price?

If you finish wiring & drywalling my house, I'll finish your body work. I feel the same way about the electrical and drywall work I have ahead of me. I feel like I'm doing about 1 hour work every 8 hours I spend on my house. I'd rather be doing bodywork, at least I'd feel productive.

I struggled for almost 1 year of doing mud work consistently before I was really good. I wasn't doing mud work everyday, but at least a few days each week. It is an art, and something I'm not sure I would ever have gotten good at, if I didn't spend the last 4 years doing bodywork. You can't learn it from a book, or a video either. It is a "feel", literally. "Feeling" my work is how I was taught to get good mud results. I can't tell you how many times I'd call my boss over to check my work because I thought I was done, only to have him point out what was wrong.

Good luck, wish I could help, but I'm going to have to take some time off from working with the Bronco and get my house done. Need to get these old permits closed. Boy I wish I could just work on cars. I'm never going to take on a project like my house again.

Chad

Mmmm - I love the smell of body filler. I had NEVER done bodywork and just jumped in. I really enjoyed that part of my build. JCB - let me know if you need Durablock sanding blocks or air sanders (DA & Long Board) if ya need them.

I love the smell of filler too; reminds me of my dad working on all those old cars.

You are right, I think it's an art that takes a lot of practice. Once I put the hardener in, I'm in a rush. I always want to put on a smooth thin coat, but it ends up thick and messy. So then I spend too much time sanding off the excess. I have two more Broncos to finish in Ohio after this one and I'm probably going to pay a body shop for those.

Chad, you have me beat on the drywall and electrical. Doing drywall is something that I've learned to pay for, much worse than body work. But I bet you are saving a ton of cash doing it yourself.

John
