Got to thinking about this, couldn't find anything on the interwebs. Does anyone know why Ford went to the trouble of designing their own axle instead of just buying a Dana or something similar? |

It was probably a money thing more than anything else. Ford probably wanted to standardize as many parts as it could to minimize costs. They used it in nearly every car/truck line between the '50's and '70's. |

Hmmm, I didn't know the 9" was that old. I suppose that more parts were made in-house back then anyway. |
