My Bronco came with Diamond Plate Rockers. They are great until you look behind them - completely rusted out. I need to cut my Rockers and looking for ideas. I have a couple ideas but love to hear what you guys are thinking or have done. |

I like the tube rocker. But don't put it on your truck. I'm going to put them on the '72 and I don't want you beating me to the punch! |

I am months away from Rock Skis - so I am sure you will be first! I would be happy with any of the above pics. If there is a lot of interest, this is a smart Tech Class Build. I like all the designs and with Dan's new Tube Bender it makes the possibilities endless. I will not use my rock skis for protection (Mall Crawler) but want something to help people get in and out. I am getting my Family Cage and Bumpers over Christmas and they are Tubing Style Bumpers so I may go a combo of the two styles. Keep the pics coming and lets keep brain storming. |

Of all these examples, I like the tubing one the best. Only problem is the rockers still need to be fixed, as well as adding the tube rock skis. I wonder if there is a way to replace the rockers with some type of tubing skis. Any ideas? |

I did these probably 6 years ago and they have worked out great. IIRC they were 3-1/2" x 2" x 1/8" tube (maybe thicker). I have bashed on them time and time again and still holding up great. They are only welded to the body. I took a floor jack and pressed them under the body in that L-shape. Tacked them together, pulled them down and welded solid, then put them back in and welded to the body. If I were to do it again, I'd like them to stick out just an inch or so more to keep my away from rocks and trees better. Plus I'd seal them up to use as air tanks. J.D. |

One of these days, I'm gonna get around to shaving my rockers like JD has done. I have debated on welding to the body or bolting to the frame and I think I am gonna bolt on. Now I just gotta do a few other projects that I have sitting. Like putting the 3G alternator on that I got a month ago, putting the PS pump on that Zach gave me a month ago, putting the new Viair compressor on that I got a month ago. Buying, cutting off & replacing both rear fender skirts....so much to do, so little time & money. |
