I have a neighbor who writes test reports for Roush. He has been testing and helping to solve idle issues with a dodge 1500 1/2 ton diesel, claims other than the fact the truck has issues maintaining idle it is pretty awesome.

As you said - I will believe it when I see the first one on the street. Otherwise, it is just rumors....

5.0L diesel V8... but will it fit in a Bronco? It'll be interesting to see if they put a small diesel in the frontier. Rumors are GM might put one in the colorado which would finally introduce some competition to the Tacoma. I know most of you don't care but for those of us that can't afford to drive an F-350 and have nowhere to park it, this is kinda cool!

I am all about diesel engines in ANYTHING! It just plain makes a lot of darn sense. Trouble is the uneducated American public is the buyer and it's taking a long time to show "us" that these diesels are great engines! Great power, efficiency, economy, reliability etc.

I want to see American Auto makers to start putting diesels in cars of all shapes and sizes. They are here and have been forever!

I read this about a week ago and it made me sick. Putting a cummins motor in a foreign vehicle. I agree with you all, I will believe it when I see it. If the cummins goes in anything other than a dodge, put it in a FORD!

5.0 diesel seems over kill for a half ton. Should be interesting to see the weight, and Nissan put behind it. Hopefully a diff that can handle the power this time.

Chevy has a 2.0 tdi in a sedan. Woohoo!

I recently bought a VW Golf with a 2.0l diesel. It's awesome. Loads of torque (236 stock, another 50 when the warranty expires and I chip it) and I get 42ish miles to the gallon.

Those with the VW 2.0 TDI - read up on the oil pump issue. IIRC - the chain driven ones are prone to failure. There is a TSB of some sort out there where you need to replace chain with gears, but at your expense.

Thanks for the tip! Did some reading, it looks like the issue was on the 2.0 PD engines from the mid 2000's. Mine's one of the newer common rail diesels. Appreciate the FYI, I'd want to know about something like that.

I am glad you are unaffected. When we were looking at replacing my wife's car, those mid-2000's 2.0l TDI's were in our price range, so at one point I knew the engine codes to look for that tell me if that engine was chain or gear. I am sure I can dig that info back up if someone needs it. But yeah, bad thing happen when your oil pump fails.

Those are badass. United Nations had a zillion of them running around Bosnia when I was there. I really wanted to import one of the diesel crew cab ones and build it as a rock crawler.

Had a Hilux we used on base a few years ago over in Iraq. That thing took two very close rocket impacts, neither of them a direct hit. No windshield, dash, lights, or hood and a radiator that leaked like a siv and it still fired up on the first crank and ran like a top.

The 6 cylinder diesels in use in the overseas Land Cruisers are also very nice. Would love to figure out a way to get one of those shipped back home.
