I'm building a new exhaust and need suggestions on a muffler. I'm going with WH shorty headers into a 3" single exhaust. My old dual 2.25" had a bit of a boom around 1500 rpm, so my ears hurt by the end of a day of wheeling. I'm looking for something with a quiet but deep rumble that opens up a high RPM under heavy throttle. I'd like a little roar, but would also like something civilized when I don't have my foot in it. Ideas? |

I'm pretty sure mine is a Magnaflow 2 into 1. I like the sound, much better than the crappy duel exhaust & muffler's I replaced. Sorry no part numbers, it was used & I traded a co-worker for it. |

The muffler included in the BC Broncos 2-1 system, I think it is a Magnaflow, has a pretty good sound to it. I like it better than whatever crap has been installed on Stroppe'd for the last 15 years. |

I had a Flowmaster installed on my Dodge Ram 1500. It had a low deep throated rumble at idle and low RPM but when you punched it, it seemed to roar to life. Not sure what it would sound like on the 302, but I loved that exhaust on my Dodge. It was such a deep sound, just coasting in parking garages would cause all the rice burner's alarms to chirp at me! |

Justin, You've heard mine. Its a Flowmaster 9525454 Super 40 Muffler 2 in and 2 out though vs what planning. I love the sound at idle, however it does have a bit of a resonance at 2k. I run either topless or soft top and it's tolerable at idle and cruise and noticeable when I want it to be. Both the kid and I really like the sound at Idle we both have said we could listen to that all day and I get plenty of commits that it just sounds "right". It does have a just a bit of a cam in it and the muffler does a good job with it. I'm also running stock manifolds. Brett . |

I've thought about the 50 series Flowmasters. I really like the sound of the 40 series, but I'm concerned about how loud they are since I'm running headers and a fairly large diameter exhaust. Actually, now that I'm thinking about it, the 40s might be perfect-I'm planning to run a high flow catalytic converter. |

I put MagnaFlow muffler on recently and it sounds nice. Haven't got it broken in yet though. Also are you sure about catalytic converter? Had my bronco since 85, 3-4 exhausts later, lol. And I've never ran one. Just passed emissions too. |

If you have a '75 to '77 you are legally required to have a catalytic converter. Federal $2500 fine if removed. Seldom enforced, unless you run afoul of some LEO looking for anything and everything to ticket you for. Why I will not own newer than a '74. Also no mileage restriction on collectable plates pre '75. I knew a Forest Service officer that caused a forest fire with one, parked over dry grass/weeds, they operate at over 1800 degrees - far above ignition temp.. |

I think a call to any one of the big manufacturers could help narrow down your search. I agree with the CAT for the smell alone. I want to add one to my system someday. I have had experience with Flowmaster, Magnaflow, Moroso, & Aerturbine. All held up just fine. Aero might be cool, but I don't think they have much of a muffling effect. My vote would be a mid-to-mild noise Flowmaster or Magnaflow. You know, Bud's muffler in Denver, if they are still kicking, would also be a great source for info as well as any other enthusiast exhaust shop. |

l'm running a 50 series flowmaster 3" in and out single...l like the way it sounds. The 40s and 44s are louder than the 50s. |
