Garage Journal
Is anyone on garage journal? I have been spending a lot of time over there looking for garage ideas. I also started a thread about moving my three car garage to make room for a real garage / shop. I will need to turn the current garage 90 degrees and then move it east about 50 feet. I think it can be done by rolling it on peeler cores or jacking it up and putting it on a couple trailers. I even thought about bracing it up and getting a bunch of guys to pick it up and carry it. If your interested, check it out. I'm casadejohnson over there as well. http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/show ... p?t=318122

Re: Garage Journal
Tough one. Interesting ideas there. Will you lose access to the single garage door if it's behind the well house?
In my mind, it'd be ideal to have some very Heavy Duty wagons with lazy susans on top that the garage would be sat on. Then perhaps a single tractor pulling one allowing the others to follow without putting twisting forces on the house.
Or what about a long skid that would run the length of the building and drag it into place? The skid would have to be beefy, but I still think it could be built from wood, like 2x8 skids and 2x6 inner structure to keep it from collapsing on itself when drug sideways.

Re: Garage Journal
I will loose access to that door but it's ok because I can still use that space for mowers, ATV's, bikes etc. once it's moved, I will eventually replace the garage siding to match the new one. At that time, I'll just walk that door in. Alternatively, I could flop the door to the back of the garage.
Anyone know what concrete is costing these days? I'm guessing it's got to be getting up around $150 yd poured? Maybe less if I prep it all?

Re: Garage Journal
Dumb question but is it not feasible to just add on to the existing garage?

Re: Garage Journal
How about just tearing it down and adding the footage onto the new shop? Seems like an easier plan than moving it.

Re: Garage Journal
Internal bracing to keep it square. Then build a crib for it to sit on. Think two to four timbers running the length and two to three timbers running the width. Then put it on your pipe and roll/drag it.
Those guys over on GJ seem to be trying to get you to design some Rube Goldberg stuff.
But seriously, if a bunch of hillbillies can move a big ass barn by hand, you can move your garage in some pipe.

Re: Garage Journal
I'll draw up a wicked cool sketch of what I'm talking about with the crib tomorrow. It'll make all of those 3rd grade art teachers proud.
