A dream come true - well it will!
So on Christmas morning the kids were opening up gifts and we were enjoying the moment. After the kids were playing with their toys and my 2yr old daughter was putting on every pair of underwear she just opened, over her PJ's, my wife handed me a box. We weren't supposed to do much for each other for Christmas. Don't be fooled, I know better than to do nothing! ;-) It wasn't a bronco part - perhaps better! First thing I see in the box was a nice hat. Wow, I thought, this is a sweet hat. Perhaps you recognize its meaning? She says "dig a little deeper" and I pull out a voucher which reads in condensed version "good for the Worlds fastest Taxi ride in an M5 with professional driver + 3 laps on your own in rental race car at the world famous Nurburgring!". My jaw dropped! I have been talking about doing this ever since we got here, just never had a good time to go. And with all my recent car issues, I now don't really have a car that would be fun to take out. So dreams faded. But it's back and we have booked the trip for June! I get to share it with a friend of mine (splitting the package). I am borrowing a friends GoPro (with G-force meter) to record the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and I am just praying for a nice sunny day. I am excited for the ride in a 560HP M5 to see what pushing the limits at the track is all about. Trying to keep the trip a little budget friendly, my co-gearhead and I chose the cheapest RWD and manual transmission car; a Toyota GT 86. Sure I would have LOVED a Porsche, but the prices for those far exceeded our budget. I am nervous and very excited all at the same time. Does it get any better for the average Joe Motorhead? I am nervous about wrecking as there are very heavy penalties to pay. The car alone will cost 12,000 EUR with the insurance package we got. Plus there are fees the track tacks on based on damage and downtime! But I plan to do all I can to learn the track ahead of time and I have no intentions of pushing too hard. Just wanted to share in my excitement! It will make an excellent Bon Voyage to Deutschland!
