Has this been done before? I got to thinking about this again looking at Kirk's fenders. Fiberglass work is within the realm of Everyman/garage manufacturing capability. There is a Jeep guy that did some amazing stuff in his garage. I never really cared for the stock hardtop, but like that idea of a hard top for inclement weather and with a functional CAD model, this could be a possibility. Any thoughts / opinions on the matter? Any fiberglass experts in the house? I worked for a company that built composite balsa wood/fiberglass campers and they were bulletproof, but I have yet to try my own hand at it. |

To add to this, I really like the idea of a modular hardtop that gives you benefits of the soft top, but protections of a hard top. OR PERHAPS: *Paging BSD* |

I always thought if I went back to a hard top, I would install window sliders in the sides and do a full sliding ragtop in the top. |

Jay (JGZ) is the local dude who is producing really nice items for the interior; door panels/pockets, speaker pods, headliner, etc. We've chatted about tops, he felt the market was too small to justify the startup costs. On expedition portal there is 1-2 custom fiberglass tops for the 4 door broncos that were built last year, basically extended 1/2 cab style. I'm with Toolman, as I thought the sliding ragtop would be fun. I've also seen VW camper roofs grafted onto various roofs. |
