I’ve been thinking of putting some YOM plates on my Bronco but can’t seem to fully understand the rules of it all. Can these be run full time on a Bronco? Does it matter if it’s modified from original? Searches I find on the web lead me to some dead end links on the DMV site. I did find this link that states they can only be used to and from special events that the sole purpose is based on the vehicle. http://ncrsrmc.org/Downloads/YOM_License_Plate.pdf Anyone have any information other than this? I know I could go to the DMV and ask, but I feel I’d be subject to the knowledge of the random employee I get in front of... |

I’ve had mine for years and ran them more often than I should have. The safest or most legal way is to and from events, I don’t think the events need to be special. Like most things it’s all about discretion, yours and the officer who pulls you over, ha. I was pulled over a few weeks ago in BSD and the officer didn’t even know about the YOM rule. I pulled out my other plates, I keep them in the glove box, and showed him both registrations and all supporting paperwork and he was cool. He even thanked me for educating him on the process, nice guy who was looking for a easy ticket. Anyway, get some and run them. |

Like you and Kirk have mentioned. They are supposed to be used to and from special events. Left to interpretation I guess. I haven’t been pulled over but you are supposed to carry the official plates and registration at all times am figured iam always going to a bronco meeting, mechanic or somewhere else that could be considered an “event”. The process is easy and free. A simple form then you go in and they record it. I believe they associate the new old plate with the vin but it’s been awhile. As long as the year on the bronco registration matches the embossed year of the license plate you should be good to go. |
