I hear there will be 4 and 2-door variations, which is cool. I don't hold out any hope that it will really compete with a wrangler in the off-road segment. I will be surprised if it even gets a live rear axle. But if they put some descent live axles under it, sway bar disconnects, and a locker, then there is a chance at taking some of the Wrangler pie, in the off road realm. I do think they will take a bit out of Jeep either way because even among Jeep owners, how many really do go off road enough to even need live axles?
As another family SUV, with whatever suspension they decide, I could see myself owning one someday in a 4-door config. Especially if it looks like the image below. But it will be what our current SUV is; just a way to get around on paved streets. But then again, look at Land Rover. They do some amazing stuff stock with totally independent axles and if the Bronco can keep up with one of those, perhaps it could do some mild trails for fishing, camping, or hunting.
Now, if the new 3.0L diesel is as good as it's 6.7L big brother and it finds it way into this bronco, then I might be first in line to get one! Or FORD - put that into the Expedition at least...
I am excited for the reveal!
