Looking for a little help here. I patched my aux fuel tank with regular JB weld back in the summer and tested it with no leaks. I did not get it re-installed till November and tested it out with a small amount of fuel with no issues. Yesterday I filled the aux tank. I drove the 14miles home and noticed something leaking from the skid plate. The aux tank was leaking like a sieve from the patched place. I pulled out of the garage (did not want to burn the garage down). My question is what have you gentlemen used to patch your tanks if needed? I did some looking looking on CCB and the thought process is most patches won't last longer than a year. Is it worth repairing, or should I bite the bullet and just replace it? Thanks Jayson

JB WaterWeld. It's made to seal gas tanks. Scuff up the plastic around the hole first.

You didn't say what kind of damage you have but if it is drill holes from the top I use RV gas tank repair kit. Not cheap but has lasted ten years on mine without any problems. It bonds best if the area is scuffed with 100 grit sand paper first. If it is compression cracks from over tightening the J bolts I don't think you'll be able to get any repair to hold permently.

It is a plastic tank. The cracks do appear to be stress cracks that have worsened over the years of age and over tightening. I will give the JB waterweld a shot. Another question is has anyone every covered their tank with fiberglass after patching it? Might give this a try as a new tank is not out of the realm but I would rather fix than have to buy a new one. Thanks for the input. Jayson
