Post Steering column
Hey guys I have a question. Ok I bought a new wire harness at the tri state swap meet this year. I was in need of a new one pretty bad as wire were hanging down. I also need a new column and steering wheel. Question is should I go with a ford column of go with a gm to match the harness? Make it easier on a first timer. Lol thank any input would be helpful

Post Re: Steering column
I did a column out of a early '70s 2wd F-150. It's a little shorter than the stock one, but didn't have any of the shifting junk in it. It took $25 worth of bearings, a quick weld of the mounting bracket, and a coat of paint to rebuild it. The plug for the wiring harness is easy-if you can rewire your truck, you can rewire your column. What in your column needs fixing?

I used a GM tilt column in mine. The turn signal is alot better IMO and it was fairly easy to install. Had to weld on the upper mount, but not too difficult.

I need upper bearing, horn button, retaining spring, and turn signal. Haven't had much time to get to deep in but that's just from looking at top part.

I don't need any shifting on the column only need it to be in good shape. I have the three on the floor.

Just re-use the stock column since you've got it already. I'd take it apart, strip out all the stuff you're not using, and put it back together again. The only thing that will matter for you should be a lower bearing and retaining collar. I bet 2 bearings, the little plastic thrust washer thingy, a turn signal switch, and a few hours of tinkering should have it fixed up.
