Manual to auto conversion
I might be putting the C4 I have in storage into the '72. But, I've got a question. When it comes to installing the flexplate, which is weighted (right?), how do I know what position the weight on the plate needs to be in? Seeing as I am not removing an existing flexplate, I have no point of reference. Or am I over thinking this?

Re: Manual to auto conversion
It will only go on one way. The bolts / holes are not evenly spaced so that they will all only line up in one position.

Well that certainly makes things easier. Thanks. And if you do make it down to WH tomorrow, tell Jim and crew we all say hi from Colorado.

Re: Manual to auto conversion
The weight is determined by the application, so for early 302 / 351 they are the same, and only the larger 11" torque converters are made now. Don't forget to pull the pilot bushing out of the crank before you try to mate the auto up. I've done 3 of these now so let me know if it want a hand.

Re: Manual to auto conversion
Appreciate the offer Kinder. Still trying to make a decision and determine my short range work timelines. About the only things I lack now are the cooler lines and starter.

Re: Manual to auto conversion
Just bend up some 5/16" hard lines in the longest length napa sells, they are almost perfect, one line will need an extra 12" section to mate to a stock radiator cooler.
