1967 Bronco Auto Trans
I have a customer that is a member of this forum that has a really nice 67 Bronco, V8, Automatic, lift kit, mostly restored. Unfortunately the 3 speed automatic transmission has a bunch of clutch debris in the pan. We are looking to install a later model 4 speed OD transmission in the vehicle. What do I need to know to do the exchange? Obviously, the transfer case, etc., but what else needs to be obtained or modified for the swap? Thanks!

Re: 1967 Bronco Auto Trans
Is this bronco EFI'd or still carb'd?
All depends on what trans you want to run. You can get an AOD out of a mustang and change the tailhousing and output shaft with an adaptor to the d20. But a far superior transmission to use is a 4r70w out of a 96-01 ford explorer. It has better gearing and a much stronger build. They will bolt up directly to the 302 and with a bolt on adaptor it will mate to the d20. The 4r70w will require modifications to the trans cross member and driveshafts. It is also all electronically controlled. So either an aftermarket controller or can be controlled off the factory explorer efi system if so equipped.
Our local trans guru is Viperwolf1. He can hook you up with a bulletproof c4 if needed.

Re: 1967 Bronco Auto Trans
It has a Holley 4bbl. Sorry. I didn't have my notifications enabled. I will respond promptly now that I figured it out!
