Bogging issue
Hey there,
So at around 25-30 MPH, my motor bogs down a bit. Then if I park, take it out of gear, and rev it to around where it will tach at 25-30 MPH, it misses/bogs again.
Yesterday = ran fine. Today = problem.
Where should I start looking?
Thanks,

Re: Bogging issue
Weak fuel pump? Floats set too low? Sounds like a fuel starvation.

Re: Bogging issue
I would do what ZOSO said, check fuel pressure, make sure you dont have a plugged fuel filter.

Re: Bogging issue
Maybe hanging vacuum advance or mechanical advance.
Since I reread this post another thing that may have happened is if the engine has the factory style timing chain it may have jumped a tooth. Fords are known... let me restate that... were known to jump time when they were started up. I had a 74 Bronco back in the late 70's that started acting sluggish and I checked the timing and found it was retarded so I advanced the distributor and tightened back down. I thought it was odd because the distributor was tight so how could it move. Well several months later my cousin came into town for my wedding and needed to borrow my Bronco to run an errand. He started it and backed out of a parking spot and it died. Would not restart. Towed it home and I checked and found the timing chain jumped a few teeth. Put it back together and found out that I had also a few bent valves from hitting the pistons.
Just more food for thought.

Re: Bogging issue
It has points... Now the problem is worse, it stalled on me a few times and is running rougher. Now I'm thinking its a fuel issue.
I would like to do the Pertonix upgrade, but first I'm going to change fuel filter and clean up the carb.
Thanks for the help guys.
I will try all the suggestions.

Re: Bogging issue
Have you tried cleaning and adjusting the points? My buddy had a CJ that would just start running like crap. We would readjust the points and it would run like a top! Worth a check.

Re: Bogging issue
An engine with points and a distributor has several places that can be sensitive to several things, particularly humidity.
Lacking a more intelligent, directed approach, start with the cheap things first such as fuel filter, plugs, points, distributor cap then spark wires. 'Lightening cracks' in a distributor can be hit or miss. Look for thin, black trails between connections on the inside of the cap. To get rid of them, use course steelwool OR replace it.
DEFINATELY give converting to an electronic ignition a serious thought! Bad points can cause a big enough backfire to explode your muffler(s).
