Post brake lights
My brake lights have stopped working. Here's what I know:

Bulbs are good
Indicators work
Hazards work
When headlights are on so are the rear tail lights
Brake pedal switch works (power in and through when pedal depressed)
Connections between steering column and harness seem to be connected.

Where should I go next?

Thanks,
Shawn

Post Re: brake lights
If you have a test light or meter check at the firewall connector if your getting voltage when pedal depressed. If you are then possible wiring shorted or open going outside. If not then you now that it's a problem in cab.
You did say that when the pedal Is depressed you do have voltage going out of cab.

Do you know which connector at the fire wall to test? There are 4 or 5 connectors.

Mine is a four pin connector going to the rear. I have a 66 so it might be different no reverse lights. It should be all the way on the drivers side

I topped off the brake fluid and didn't see that it was wired. I wired it up and got brake lights again. Zilla and coby, you two are geniuses.

Thanks!

I normally check for power to the bulb socket first. If you have 12 Volts there then you need to verify your ground is good. Also if the turn signals work the brake lights would work unless the wiring/connectors, or switch is bad.

If all of that checks out add some more fluid! laughing2

Post Re: brake lights
Okay, seriously now....

When the brake pedal is depressed, power goes up into the steering column. Is it possible the brake wires are not connecting up by the steering wheel?

OR what color are the brake light wires coming back out of the column so I don't have to pull the wheel?

OR- I'm way off here and need another route.

HA- Found it in the column. My turn signal switch was sliding out.

And you all thought it was fluid!

Oh look who decided to chime in....

Before I took the wheel off I found the wiring info on classicbroncos.com. You'll never guess who had it posted over there.

Rhymes with SHMIPERSHMOLF....

Thanks for all the help and comedy you guys. This club rocks!

Hey, I thought you had it handled when you wired up the master cylinder.

Reminded me of the ol Cruise Control Cancellation switch that was setting all those parked cars on fire.

I can remember when they used to sell new turn signal switches in auto parts stores. The problem was that many installed them wrong and ended up having problems like you were talking about. I think my dad installed one once and found out first hand what problems it can cause to brake lights and turn signals. Glad you found it.
