Rox Crusher's frame off refresh and 5.0 EFI swap
Bought a 5.0 EFI Explorer engine this week-end so no turning back now.
Not sure how soon I will be putting it in though.
Gotta get harness and other related "stuff".

Re: Taking the EFI plunge
Might make a couple of good tech days as part of the project. Swapping an engine, EFI wiring, etc. You know, the stuff that Viper does during catnaps.

Re: Taking the EFI plunge
I agree a tech class would be a great way to help get new motor installed. With the number of EFI's in the club, you should be able to do it right the first time. Going to be fun to see it come together and the costs and parts involved.

Re: Taking the EFI plunge
You gonna do the 2 pump system ??, or get the intank pump/tank set up?? It's cheaper to do the LP-HP setup, so you have more lettuce for the harness.

Re: Taking the EFI plunge
Have you seen BC's accumulator setup? I'm thinking that when I go EFI (in 1000 years) I'll likely go this way. http://www.bcbroncos.com/fuelefi.html about halfway down.

Re: Taking the EFI plunge
I would look at adding an in-tank pump to the BCB tank. Might need to weld in some baffles for the pump. The external accumulators and pumps can be finicky at high altitude/temp. Plumbing and wiring would be a lot cleaner with an in-tank pump too.

Re: Taking the EFI plunge
I have heard in-tank fuel pumps last a lot longer because they are cooled by the fuel vs. external fuel pumps.

Re: Taking the EFI plunge
i have a slightly used accumlator from bcb and a carter external low flow pump, both were installed, engine fired up and then replaced with an in tank system. I also have a efi harness from a 89 mustang. If anyone here wants them call me or pm me. next breakfast at golden corral i can let anyone that wants take a look at my efi setup.

Re: Taking the EFI plunge
Got it home last night.
Guy decided to throw in the wiring harness but pretty sure I won't be using it.
Sounds like I need to go with the in tank pump set up.

Re: Taking the EFI plunge
Seeing Zilla's low mileage (read super clean) 5.0 engine during the gear install tech session motivated me to get started on getting mine ready for installation this fall.
Viper graciously came over on Sunday and gave me some great advice on what I can and can't use (thanks again Phil).
Tonight I cracked that egg open and to my untrained eye everything looks really good.

Re: Taking the EFI plunge
Commemorating the 4 month anniversary of your buying the motor? Looks like fun! Been thinking of pulling the trigger myself but too many irons in the fire as it is. Maybe this winter...

Re: Taking the EFI plunge
I'll be watching, I've got a 96 Explorer motor waiting. Since money is tight, and my carb'd motor is good, it will be waiting for a while. I'd see what I could do about coming to Denver to attend an efi swap. I think I've done enough reading to know most of what to expect, but I'd love to see it done.

That does look pretty clean inside Jeff. I wouldn't tear it down any more than that. Just run it as is. That has the re-usable pan gasket too.

Re: DANG IT SPENCER ! ! ! ! ! ! !
Sounds like a great plan! Are you going to rebuild the tranny/transfer case while you have it all open? Or was that done recently? What color are you going to paint the bay? I found a source for the original Ford OEM colors and am planning to do that do mine.
