302 won't fire
Drews bronco was backfiring like crazy, so I put my hand on top of the dist to adjust the timing, and got zapped. The plug wires were cut-cracked. So off to napa and we get new plugs, wires, cap and rotor.
Put it all on, and guess what? No zoom, zoom.
Any one have any great ideas?
Anyone feel like coming over to play broncos and help out? Plenty of cold ones as payment.

Re: 302 won't fire
Greg,
The ignition module was relatively new, as were the cap and rotor, and plugs.
I would guess coil or firing order.

Keep at it. The shocking means it's working - take turns holding it.

Re: 302 won't fire
We got it!
Finally pulled the number 1 plug, found the top and pulled the cap, found number 1 on the rotor and reset the wires accordingly. Turned the key and fired her right up. Set the timing a at 10 degrees advanced, might be a bit to much but she is running better than she has in months.
Oh, and we fixed the signature "Rox Crusher" squeal too!

Re: 302 won't fire
Nope, just pulled the old wrecked motor over, set the hammer and block on the fender, scared the engine into fixing itself

Re: 302 won't fire
Are you sure Drew needs a better running motor?

Re: 302 won't fire
Yeah, he does. He is leaving for work at 430am, mon-fri. The squealing alt and backfiring that sounded like a 30-06 going off 15 times in the driveway was disturbing the neighbors, but more importantly, it was pissing off the queen of the household.
Yes, he needed a better running motor.
We all needed him to have a better running motor

Re: 302 won't fire
Yeah - I think he has learned that lesson pretty well - the expense of his heavy right foot has cost him pretty dearly since he earned his license in late April... starter, rear end, fluids, seals etc... not to mention fuel!
On the bright side - he is getting 12-14mpg since the tune up!
But his mother will not let him run topless this summer - and the drive home from work has been brutal so far (he gets off at 2:30p and it has been HOT!) - seems like we may be having some minor vapor lock issues. Going to try the wood clothes pin trick tonight. He is working near the Denver Zoo and we live in Highlands Ranch - cross town traffic on 100 degree days...

Re: 302 won't fire
Do you want to cut the hood? I've put hood vents like this in my '74 I have some, but they are located in Monte Vista. There are better functioning ones:

Re: 302 won't fire
not a bad idea, we already have a hole in it for the air cleaner and just put a scoop on it. We need to open up the hole more I am sure.
I will suggest it to him.
Thanks
