Warn 8200 Winch questions and scope creep
When I bought my 76 Ranger it came with the dealer installed bumper and Warn winch. I sold the bumper but hung onto the winch which has loyally sat on the shelf for a number of years. I am finally ready to put it back on the line and after some investigation it looks like I have a Warn 8200.
This particular Warn 8200 is evidently a brief in-between model that bridged the gap between the Old Bellviews and the Warn 8274. The winch is in great condition and had virtually no leaks. I was really surprised when i opened the oil inspection plug that the oil level was where it should be. I know for a fact the oil was never changed so was very surprising. The oil looked pretty good for being 40 years old as well :)
Anyway, I cracked the case and took a look at everything and it looks to be in great shape, even the case seal might be re-usable. Now that I have it apart and here comes scope creep... would now be a good time to replace the motor and/or solenoids or anything else? As far as I know everything works great - however I haven't used it to winch anything.. just ran it briefly a few years ago to make sure it worked. Iam pretty sure I won't be able to get a new seal so was thinking of using black RTV.
My investigation leads me to believe i have power in/out (evident by the hand and in cab controls) and free spool.
Thoughts? Anyone have any experience with these?
yes, i see the roller bearings ;)
Should I just wipe it down,
it back together and fill it up with oil?
